Science Design

I absolutely LOVE teaching science . . . especially when it's science design project time! This one was no exception! It's so cool to see the imagination and creativity of students. This one was a challenge - they could only use tape and newspaper to create a "sun protection system". Wow! We had lots of variety in the projects!

The students have shared their experience on our Kidblog account. Read their write-ups by clicking HERE. This is Matt's review of the project . . .

Well for the past few days our class has been working on an Awesome Science Project.

It was so fun to do and some of us had partners and I did have one and that was Brett. First we started with drawing out what we wanted to protect us from the sun. We decided that we were going to make a tent. At first our tent started of as a dome on the paper than we started to work on it. When we had a little bit done we thought that the dome would not stand so we change our idea to make the tent rectangular. When we had that idea done we started to do the rectangular tent. Oh a I forgot to tell you that we were only allowed to use Masking tape and newspaper. Brett and I started to do it and it took a long time to get the base done but when it was we double checked it to see if it was strong enough to hold the rest off the tent. We had to add one more thing and we were ready to start making the base for the walls. When we started that we said that there is no way we are going to finish on time so I worked on one side and Brett worked on the other. And by the way that made it go a lot faster.

When we were done the base for the walls we started on the roof. The roof was the hardest because we had to make sure it was nice and Strong but also really lite so it didn't bring the whole thing down. When we finally finished the top we got to started wrapping it with newspaper. That did not take that long but it took a bit. When we finally finished that we were done.

The next Day in the second period we got to go out and test them. Ours was pretty much destroyed because it barely fit out the door. We had to do a few touch ups and than we went in it and it did protect us from the sun. When Ms. Wasney took the picture it was time for the fun. And if you don't no what the fun is, well it was destroying it.

And that was the end of our science design. I rate this 5 out of 5 stars.
