Spirit Week!

We've had a fun week at school. It's been Spirit Week for "I Love to Read Month" and I'm happy that so many Room 31 students participated in the themes for each day! A BIG thank you to Mackenzie's dad for being a Guest Reader on Tuesday. He is a colourist for Marvel and DC comics! He has worked on thousands of comics! So cool! On Monday we had No School so I Stayed home With My Family My Dad had a Day Off Work Cause He Just Got Back From Ottawa so I got to spend the day with him! So what I did at home was..... SLEEP IN, Read a book then I fell asleep when I was reading so the Book was on top of me then I went outside.

On Tuesday we had Dress like a Seuss Character/ Wear a silly Hat! I wore a silly hat it was my maleficent ears. Mackenzie's Dad Came to our school and read to us. He read us some of his new comics that he brought they were so cool.

On Wednesday we had wear a Readable Shirt day I wore shirt that said I've got GAME! it was my favorite basketball team shirt I love it so much Cause It's So SOFT! we also had The Fit- A-Thon With 2/3H it was So fun my team got 69 laps it was Awesome I really looked like a Tomato.

On Thursday We had Dress Like your favorite Book character I Dressed up like Nikki Maxwell From dork diary's it was awesome. we also had Hot Lunch we had Jonesy's Chicken fingers They were so good even though I only got 2 chicken fingers but it was good.

On Friday we had Dress up in your pajamas mine are so soft they are purple with peace signs and heart's they make me want to fall asleep. we also had Music we were practicing the sailor it's a song we are doing for the music festival it's so cool!

100 Days and counting!

We've had a busy week . . . it was Valentine's Day on Tuesday and we also celebrated 100 Day on Thursday! Can you believe the year is halfway done?! That's crazy!!! Next week is a SPIRIT WEEK for "I LOVE to Read Month"! Please check the February calendar, or the sidebar on the blog for the theme for each day.

Monday
On Monday we to make heart envelopes for valentines day and mine is kind of nice but I said on it to put lots of candy in here and there was a lot in it and lots of cards also on Monday we did weekend wind up and I had a fun weekend I went snowmobiling and I went to sport check and got stuff and did lots of shopping:( but I had lots of fun snowmobiling I love snowmobiling a nd I have jumps in the back yard but that's all for Monday BYE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tuesday

Thanks families!

valentines party and there was lots of candy and treats and I brought cupcakes and they were awesome me and my mom made them and their were lots of extra when they came out so I ate like 50 cupcakes and I was happy and we also did gym and we played a game called cupid tag and if you got tagged you had to toss and arrow at the big heart on the wall then you were free to go if you got tagged again you had to do it again it is very fun that's all for Tuesday BYE!!!!!!!!!!

Wednesday
On Wednesday we a guest reader come to the school and guess who. Petric if you've herd of them that's good but they came and read us a book by dr Seuss  I cant remember what the book was called but the singer of the band name was tom Petric and his brother is Jason Petric and they sang us two songs one was all she wrote and the other was a sneak peak its there new song they finished in the studio the song is called 18 ends it is a great song their both good and also on Monday we shared our design projects with ms dycks class and they had some great project and we tried all of their projects then the came and saw ours  they seamed to like ours they tried me and bradens a lot and I ran carters too. and it was fun that's all for Wednesday BYE!!!!!!!!!

on Thursday we 100 day activity booklet and there was one when you are one hundred how your life was and stuff there was a word work you have to make a word that equals 100 words then there what the world would be in one hundred years and I would say Dylan's was the best and we also did gym we did a curling tournament and it was so fun and that's all for Thursday BYE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Marble Runs!

We have had a great time designing and building our Marble Runs for our science design projects! We shared our projects with Mrs. Dyck's Grade 5s and checked out theirs as well! What I love best is that no two projects are ever the same! It's so cool! Here's Michael's review of the project from his Kidblog account:

Hi, today I will be telling you about my science design, how I made it and a bunch of different stuff so to start off I will talk about some of the criteria.
1. set a marble in motion
2. make the marble change direction/speed
3. make the marble come to a controlled stop
next I will tell you what materials I used, I used a cracker box, toilet paper roll, duct tape, masking tape and boxing tape, I also used a chicken fingers box. now I will tell you what was the hardest part and easiest part were, so the easiest part for me was designing it but the hardest part was getting everything too work but in the end it all turned out. now I will tell you what I would do differently next time, I would make my project more complex so that it would be longer and look bigger and be awesome. if I had to rate this project I would give it a four and a half, because it worked well but I could have made it better. thanks for reading please leave a comment by: Michael

Dog House Canteen update!

On February 3, the Dog House Canteen girls and I were invited to tour the Ronald McDonald House. Yesterday, the girls shared about the experience at an assembly. Here's their script that they wrote and read:

Hi, our names are Carter, Isabella, Livia, Katie, and Kenzie. And we are from the Dog House canteen! We are excited to share about our experience at the Ronald McDonald house. The reason we got the opportunity to take a tour there is because of your support in the month of October. Does anyone know what the Ronald McDonald house is for?

We got to meet an amazing little girl named Joy, she was born with a complication called cystic hygroma. It’s a growth on her chin to make it hard to swallow, eat and breathe. She has been staying at the Ronald McDonald house since she was born which is almost 2 years ago! They have celebrated her first steps, Christmas, Halloween, Easter, thanksgiving, valentine’s day and more. Every day she is there she is getting better and better! Your teacher can show you a video so that you can learn more about her! 

Some facts we learned were:

-The number of families that stay at the Ronald McDonald house and family room in 2016:733

-The total of nights of comfort and accommodation provided by Ronald McDonald house: 5 600

- All services for families at Ronald McDonald house family room are free.

Guess what? We also got to walk over to the Health Sciences Centre to tour the Ronald McDonald family room! It was just like a house. We got to go in one of the three rooms to see what the rooms looked like. The family room is used for when children are very ill and their parents don’t want to leave the hospital. Thank you so much for being such a respectful audience and supporting the canteen!

Marble Run FUN!

We have spent loads of time on our marble runs this week! It's so awesome to walk around and see the progress. Everyone is on task . . . building and problem-solving! There are also some great science conversations going on! So cool! Today was an exciting day because the weather FINALLY cooperated and we were able to curl outside! Yay! Monday-

Caine's Arcade video!

Today we had a mini introduction of our unit of science. We are making Marble runs! We watched a couple videos of Caine's Arcade!  Caine is a very creative 9 year old boy who made his own arcade out of cardboard! You can pay $1 for 4 turns or $2 for 500 turns (it is called a fun pass)! Today we had book buddies and we were reading when Rylie showed us a workbook she got from her mom so we did some of the games!

Science Design: planning!

Tuesday-

Today we started our science design! I am working with Katie and our projects name is 1 fun marble run! I think our project will be one of the taller ones but that makes it hard because you have to make a longer path for the marble to go down. Today in math we got the smallest worksheet ever as we started our multiples by 10! It is really fun!

Wednesday-

Science Design: building!

Today we had a guest teacher for the morning as Ms. Wasney had a doctors appointment for her cough. With the guest teacher we did a reading response! I did it on the book one for the Murphy's! It is a really good book! Today we also finished our social studies! For the part when you make your own logal I made mine Furry friends protective program.

Thursday

Today we had our extra music class to practice for the music festival and we found out that we get an extra music class on every day 4 and Ms. Wasney gets to stay for our music class! Today in gym we practiced for our fit a thon. In my group it was me Madelynne and Morgan as our warm up and then we played Swamp ball. In my group for the fit a thon it was me Madelynne and Morgan.

Art Reflection

Friday-

Today we had science design so we could finish building our projects but it was a little tricky as Katie was sick so I hope she is okay with the changes I made. Today we also made our valentines day envelopes! On mine I put the quote "Out of all the things you wore today your smile is most important!"

Introducing our next Science Design Project!

It's my favourite time of the year . . . SCIENCE DESIGN! This one has to be the best one of Grade 5! Students will have to create a marble run either on their own, or with a partner. To get inspired, I love showing the video of Caine's Arcade. A young boy designed and created a whole arcade out of cardboard! His imagination and enthusiasm is contagious!

The Groundhog has Spoken!

We've had a very productive 4-day week. The students were super lucky to get outside to curl, before the crazy cold hit us later in the week! I LOVE to Read Month started up this week with a super fun activity: Tournament of Books. Each week, classrooms will read 2 picture books and vote on them. The winning book will continue onto the next week. We had great conversations after reading "Morris Micklewhite and the Tangerine Dress"! The message everyone got from it was to be who you are!

Hello person that is looking at my post today in going to share what we did this week starting with Monday 

Monday

On guess what it was my birthday! I turned 11 now >:) so yea I don't feel any older but one thing I got from my birthday WAIT 2 things 1 I got older ;) and I got sixty dollars >:D I'm going to buy a new video game maybe who know any way on Monday we had music in music we got to pick what we want to play for simple Simon I picked a glocken spiel its very hard to play but some is easy but not all of it I kind of know how to play it but yea then we had computer lab in computer lab we got to do a kid blog post about a writing prompt. but after that but after we posted we had to do all the right type its a typing thing to help us so its very easy ok and that's what we did on Monday

Tuesday

on Tuesday we had gym outside in gym we got to play in a curling rink! we have so that was cool but the sad thing is well the down side I hurt y leg on Monday then when I was on the ice I fell on the ice and hit my leg on the ice and it hurt very bad so that was not good in any way so I had to go inside and sit there and talk to ms.wasney for the hole time :T but still I had fun ok then after that we had French in French we got to do this chart for what color I like and who do we have in are family I have one brother and one sister and mom and dad who I love so very much then we had well first we had to cut all the sheets out so yea then we had to do all the rest of the sheet so that's what we did on Tuesday 

Wednesday

on Wednesday we had to get new name tags because its now Febuary  so we got some valentines name tag so yea I don't like valentine to lovey dovey so yea and we had gym inside since it was to cold so yea we got to do some sock game were we had to take done each other and pull off there sock if you do you win the match but you got to do team work like I got hunted by like 3 players like a lam vs a pack of wolfs it did not turn out well to Carson head locking me every time but its was very fun so yea I liked it ok now on to Thursday 

Thursday

on Thursday we had gym in gym we did the same thing but with a ball there was a ball in the middle but this time its was boys vs boys and girls vs girls so it was fun so the rules we had to take the ball to are side and defend your self since it was 1v1 so yea it ended bad for me lost twice to brogan >:( then we had twas in twas were doing twas in twas we have to talk about what we did so yea I'm doing it right now so yea and we had music we had to practice are parts for Simple Simon so yea and we had math in math we had to do some times so yea and that's what we did so far BYE!!!
