ANOTHER visit by a furry friend!

Wow! We sure are lucky to be visited by so many furry friends! We had 2 visits just this week alone! Emmy's mom brought their new puppy, Georgie, in to meet the students. She's about 11 weeks old and I was quite impressed with how awesome she behaved with so many kids excited to see her all at once! Here's a quick video of Georgie!

Month in Review!

Wow! I can't believe it's the last day of May! Just WHERE did the school year go?! Ryan volunteered to share all the things we did this month!

Month in review
This month we had many art jobs like the line movement, the umbrellas, and we also made flower pots for mother’s day. This month we started division and I’m finally happy I understand it much better. This month we also had a multiplication test which I missed the day we had it but I did it the next day and man was it easy I finished it in like 5 to 10 minutes. Closer to the middle of the month a grade 3 student named Araya came back to BHS because she was in the grade 2 class before with the grade 3’s and then she moved away then came back! This month as well some grade 4’s started peace making and yeah! In gym we started this get fit run club and I can’t explain that much about it though. I think this week maybe Tuesday in music Alyssa sang a solo an Adele song I don’t remember what it was called though. May 3rd we had are Travel fair but I missed it so I can’t say much about it so yeah. May 21st I think last week the grade 3’s went to the folkdance festival and the grade 4’s what they did is they got divided in to 3 classes Ms. Davis’s, Ms. Tressor’s, and Ms. Dodd’s class. Me Robbie, Colin, And Josh went to Ms. Dodd’s class when we did all are work we just got to go to the library we were basically there like 5 hours reading and me and Colin got to scan books as well! When all the kids that went to the folkdance festival got back we got to watch a movie even the grade 4’s that did not go got to watch the movie was called Napoleon and during it we got popsicle’s they were good to!  In science we started structures for the grade 3’s and habitats for the grade 4’s. Tuesday I think it was Railay came for a visit and she was so cute and funny. This month the school also holded a parent volunteer tea and we also sang to them!!

Railay's Visit to Room 5!

Today was the perfect day for Railay to visit Room 5 . . . all the students were at school! Railay was spending the day at my parent's house, so my Dad brought her to the school at about 3:30. She was a very well-behaved guest . . . though, she liked to escape from our circle on the floor. She showed some tricks, and would have done a few more . . . if only I had a cookie (milkbone) for her! Hope you enjoy the video!

TWAS

For a short week, it sure was a busy one! The Grade 3s had an awesome time at the Folkdance Festival on Wednesday! Today, the Grade 3 & 4 Choir performed for parents and grandparents at the Volunteer Appreciation Celebration. We even managed to fit in a super fun "Line Movement Art" job! Here's Araya's TWAS:

This week at school we did novel study. It was like it was just yesterday. We did math. We had to draw dots . On Wednesday the grad 3s went to the folkdance. A hole bunch of grad 3s were fiting over the teacher. It was fun. Today we had music. We had a test it was fun. It was awesome on Monday because there was no school. This week we had science we had to take paper and roll it up. And take a plat and put it on the paper and put blocks on it to test the paper. Today we did a line art. We thought of a object that moved and cut it out. We coloured warm or cool colours over the lines we drew.

Folkdance Festival!

Today, we headed out to the divisional Grade 1 to 3 Folkdance Festival at Centennial Park. I was concerned about the weather forecast, but it turned out to be a fantastic day! A BIG thank you to all the parents and grandparents that met us at the park and joined in on the fun! Thanks to Carter's parents for bringing FREEZIES for all BHS students! We cooled off in the gym during the last hour of the day and enjoyed popsicles and a movie. The Grade 4s of Room 5 were able to drop by too . . . just a "perk" for being in 3/4W! Hope you like the video!

TWAS

We've had a very busy week! Today the students were playing djembe drums in music and I peeked in to get a few pictures! Noah has been looking forward to doing TWAS on the blog ALL week . . . he asked me on MONDAY to do it!

TWAS
(This week at school)
May.-18-12
This week at school we had editing practice. I have finished all of my editing. I think that it was fun.  We also started a new Novel in Novel Study. This time, we aren’t in an entire classroom group. Ms. Wasney put us in 3 different book groups, yet, one of them people got to pick which book to read. The books that kids didn’t get to pick are Super dog and Math Rashes. The group where people got to pick, (Which is where I was put, just as a heads up) their choices were Kensuke’s Kingdom (The book I’m reading) and Fortress of Kaspar Snit. We had a Multiplication math test. Multiplication is not the best subject in the world, but I’m getting used to it pretty fast. We started division. We haven’t started fractions yet, but for now we’re just doing “There are 15 fleas and 5 fleas on each dog. How many dogs are there?” We did science. The grade 3’s are learning about structures and strong materials. We had to make a bridge that holds a stress ball pig thingy-ma-jig. The grade 4’s are learning about habitats, But I’m not in that grade. This week we had TWO fire drills. One was today and the other was on either Monday or Tuesday. We visited the grade 2/3 travel fair project. They were all really good. Today was hot lunch. It was subway. I don’t really like subway, so I just got Ketchup chips and a fruit roll up. Today we had roof top photo. Thank GOSH we weren’t facing the sun like last year. Last year, the sun was facing the direction that we were supposed to be looking, so it hurt our eyes. We had gym. In gym, we played Pac-Man. We also had music. In music, we are doing this song called “Somewhere over the rainbow” for the parent volunteers.

Eagles Update!

This morning, we checked out the Decorah Eagles. We were amazed to see how large the eaglets are! We even saw them "wingercizing"; this is when they stretch out their wings and hop to feel gusts of wind. It was so neat! We think this is the perfect video to watch right now because in Science, the Grade 3s are studying structures and the Grade 4s are studying habitats. The eagle's nest is an awesome natural structure, AND we were able to see more of their habitat when the video controller panned the area! In case you haven't had a chance to check the eagles out lately, I am embedding the video below:

TWAS

This week seemed to FLY by, probably because I was out of the class for a day and a half for peacemaker training and a meeting! Missing out on teaching days really throws off the week! But, luckily we had Ms. Malawski in. She's so great and the students love her! Today, as I was reading all of the students' TWAS writing, I was shocked to learn that they think that Editing Practice is FUN! Wow! What a compliment! This week, Cole is sharing his TWAS on the blog . . .

Rainy Day Art

In Spring, umbrellas are handy,
we think ours are just dandy!

On Friday, we worked on these umbrellas. It was a true test of patience for lots of the students! We had to cut out umbrella shapes and the little "windows" in the centre. We ended up having an outline of an umbrella. Then we had to place coloured paper behind the outline. It turned out to be a little like stained glass! This was the perfect art to have up on a bulletin board during the rainy day today! You can see these umbrellas on Artsonia by clicking HERE.

TWAS

What an awesome week we've had! We are all really excited to have Araya back at Bird's Hill School. She attended BHS for part of grade one and two. She was in Mrs. Dent Scarcello's class last year, so the Grade 3s are super happy to see her again! This week, Carter volunteered to share his TWAS:

Sharing our Travel Fair with students and Room 5 Families!

Well, today was the BIG day! We invited classes to visit our Travel Fair during the last 2 periods of the day. Then, families of Room 5 students came by between 4:00 and 5:00. It was fantastic! I was so proud of the awesome work the students put into this project! I know they will remember this day for a long time! Thank you to all the parents, grandparents, and siblings that visited today. Many students were so excited and even kept count of how many "customers" stopped by their booths. AND, thank you to so many families for bringing in delicious food samples! I'm sure not too many of us ate dinner tonight!
Hope you enjoy the video!

Manitoba Falcon Cam

In our class, we have been hooked on watching the Decorah Eagles! Now, we can watch something a little closer to home. There are peregrine falcons nesting on the roof of the Radisson Hotel in Winnipeg, as well, a pair of falcons nesting in Brandon, Manitoba. You can check out the action by clicking HERE. The 4 eggs on the Radisson Hotel are expected to hatch on May 7th. Keep watching! It will be neat to see the difference between the eagles and the falcons!
