Halloween Party!

We had a wonderful afternoon with the Halloween parade and party! It was so awesome to see all the parents come to the gym to watch the fun! Thank you to all the families that sent in delicious treats for our party! We also had a chance to taste test the cookie pizzas we had made yesterday. Yum!

Hope you have a spooktacular time trick-or-treating tonight! Be safe and have FUN!

Spooktacular TWAS!

On Monday we had our first IBL. IBL stands for inquiry based learning, we are doing a subject about weather IBL is with Mrs. Friesian in the library. I am studying on well I don’t have a type of weather. But I hope to do something about tornadoes because to me I think they are really cool. And Mrs. Friesen is really nice because when we are doing the right thing like the usually she would say “wow Ms. Wasney your class is one of my favourite classes I have ever seen”. Also on Monday we did gym in gym we had to do volley ball which I don’t mind because I am in the school’s volleyball club. All we did in gym was positioning me and a couple friends go to the schools volley ball club had to teach others how don’t know what way to rotate in the circle. Also on Monday we had a special thing called stop drop and read witch doesn’t bother me at all. And for the wrapping up subject we did on Monday was called. It wasn’t really a subject it was called vision and hearing we only needed to do was the vision because hearing only goes to grade 3.

On Tuesday we did a new reading response the difference was that all we needed to do was write jot notes and write a reflection or an opinion about that jot note. I like the first one WAY  WAY  WAY  WAY better! This one is way too hard. On the other one all you needed to do was write what you read. How can you get any easier than that?! Also we had to watch a video about storms it was so funny but me and Caeden wanted to watch climate. It’s probably not as good just me and Caeden wanted to joke around.

On Wednesday I went to WE Day !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was so fun Leif, Noah, Dobie and I got the same bracelets they looked so so cool. And there was a guy who does the camera took a picture of my poster. The guy I studied on was better than I thought. He can dance so good. I would give him 5 out of 5.

On Thursday in first period we had to set up the haunted house for the day and once the grade twos went I had to run the hockey one and the eyeball toss one. And we also did a baking activity. We made cookies in the shape as pizzas they are really good.

And today we are doing a Halloween parade with our costumes and we are also doing our Halloween party.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Pizza

Today was a super busy day . . . many of the students from Room 31 helped to run stations in the gym for Mrs. Rand's Haunted House. And this morning, we were lucky to have Aria's mom, Ms. McIntyre and our student teacher, Ms. Koehn in to help us bake GIANT cookies - one for each table group! We will be chowing down tomorrow afternoon at our Halloween party!

On Wednesday Ms. Wasney surprised our class that we were going to do a fun activity the next day. It turned out that some of the class already knew that we were going to make giant cookie pizzas. Ms. Wasney called up table groups one by one to go to the canteen. We all took turns flattening the dough and stirring it. We had to put flour on our hands so the dough wouldn’t stick to our hands. We got to put anything we wanted to on them. The things we got to put on them were jellybeans, chocolate chips, gummi bears, Smarties, marshmallows and sprinkles. Ms. Koehn and Ms. McIntyre helped with the baking. They said everybody’s cookie was crazy! The Gummi Bears all melted and it was all gooey. At our Halloween party, which is tomorrow, we will get to eat them. We can’t wait until tomorrow because it’s Halloween and we get to eat the giant cookies.

WE Day!

Today was the kind of day that makes me love my job even more than I already do! I had goosebumps all day long! Mrs. Tresoor, Mrs. Palamar, and I were thrilled to take 23 SPIN Club members to the MTS Centre to join 16 000 other passionate young people (in Grades 5 to 12) to celebrate social justice at WE Day.

Tickets can't be bought . . . they are earned through volunteerism and commitment with the Free the Children organization. Thanks to the hard work of the SPIN Club last year, we earned FANTASTIC seats this year! The event is to kick-off our year of fundraising and to pump us up to raise awareness at BHS for local and global social causes.

Hope you enjoy the video! I can't help but want to dance when I hear this song!  :)

Halloween Silhouettes

Last week we made Halloween silhouettes and we started with painting the background and we had to get picked from the lucky sticks in groups to do it. The next day we had to do the silhouettes and people did ghosts, houses, trees, moons, bats, pumpkins, churches and graveyards, owls, skeletons, and windows. We used yellow paper, black paper and white paper. We think our art is very spooky and scary. We rate this art 5 out of 5 because it’s a really awesome art project.

SPIN Club update!

Yesterday, Mrs. Tresoor and I spoke with the students who will be attending WE Day next Wednesday with 16 000 other students at the MTS Centre. The excitement is definitely building up at BHS! Check out the WE Day dance below . . . it's not as confusing as it looks - just 4 easy steps!

Next week, the SPIN Club will be running the "We Scare Hunger" campaign and collecting non-perishable food to donate to Winnipeg Harvest. Last year, BHS collected 477 pounds of food! We're hoping to reach that again this year! Did you know that 1.7 million Canadians used a food bank in 2013? And that 36% of people that access food banks are children?!

"Socktober" will also be wrapping up next week. I am so happy that we have surpassed our goal of 100 pairs of socks. We have collected 228 pairs of socks to give to families in need! Woohoo! Keep bringing them in! Maybe we can get to 300 pairs!

Thanks for supporting all these awesome initiatives!

TWAS . . . another 4 day week!

Well, this month, the students have been really lucky with all the 4 day weeks of school! I returned to school on Tuesday with cheers from the students! That just made my day, it was so sweet! I truly missed them during my time home with the flu . . . now I'm just hoping everyone else stays healthy!

Next week will be extremely busy as we are running the UNICEF campaign and wrapping up "Socktober" and "We Scare Hunger" with the SPIN Club. Thanks for your continued support for all these great initiatives!

Have a super weekend!
Ms. Wasney   :)

This week at school was super fast and amazing.

Monday we had a substitute and I didn’t know how to spell her name or how to pronounce it. All I know is that it started with an A so we all called her Ms. A.  Another thing was that we had our math quiz and I think I aced it. All we did was do expanded form and number form and a lot more.

Tuesday we had art and we did our Halloween silhouettes. I basically did my whole thing and last week we painted the background. It looks pretty good so far.  Another thing we had was choir and we sang the song “Halloween” and we are already doing it on recorder.

Wednesday we had and assembly, Emily and I were doing announcements. Emily made a mistake and he said it was me that made her do that but I said no. Another thing we did was a TTFM survey in the computer lab and it went by pretty fast and then right after that we had lunch. But although I liked it and it was actually pretty fun cause we didn’t have computer lab but we also went in the there.

Thursday we finished our art and all I had to do was put the ghost in the window and it looks pretty good and I’m happy with it too. I really liked that art and I can’t wait till the next art project. Another thing we had was our science review on weather and I thought it was hard but it actually wasn’t. I think I'm pretty good at it and I’m going to do well.

Friday NO SCHOOL! I’m going to watch a lot of movies and cuddle with my dog.

TWAS in pictures!

I was home sick for the day on Friday . . . definitely not feeling 100%! So unfortunately, I was unable to upload TWAS by a student. Instead, I'll share what we did through pictures! All of these are from our class Instagram account. You should follow us . . .  @mswasneysclass

We were quite busy during this 4 day week! We did all our usual stuff, but also had bus evacuation, started an art job for Halloween, and 10 students from Room 31 participated in the flag football tournament. Plus, we continued with the "Socktober" campaign . . . we're up to 125 pairs of socks! Woohoo! We also started working on the UNICEF campaign - which my class runs every year. October is a BUSY month for fundraising and raising awareness for needs in our community and around the world! Thanks for supporting all these initiatives!

Have a great weekend!

Science Design Project: weather vane

In the past few days for science we have been doing a project. The project is called a weather vane. A weather vane is something that tells what way the wind is going. The directions are south, north, east and west. The materials we had to use are: a wooden dowel, one meter of masking tape, plasticine, four straight pins, a ruler, four straws, manila tag paper scissors, markers and a pencil.

This project had to follow this criteria:
- The weather vane indicates four cardinal wind directions
- Must be able to withstand two different wind speeds
- Uses only the materials provided
- Design should promote the skydiving company
- The logbook should be neat and have all questions completed

One of the projects that a group built was a thing where there is an arrow in the middle of the wooden dowel and that’s the main part of the weather vane. We had to make up a name at every table group and the name of the table group we just talked about is called Wind Storm. Another table group named theirs was named The Air Traffic Control 500.

We give this project a 5/5 in stars. We say its five out of five because it was easy to work in a group of four and five people.
