Month in Review!

This month I enjoyed when we did our science projects. It was cool getting to create something out of only recyclable stuff and to see it work was awesome. I also enjoyed when we went into the star dome. I really liked the stories that were told and when it started moving it looked really cool. The best story was the one about the people who got lost in the woods. Something I wish we could do again is the star dome. I would also like to do some more mini projects like the European explorer project. It is also fun putting all the stuff we learned into a prezi or power point. I say this has been the busiest month of the year so far and the most fun month too. It would also be really cool if we could go inside the photobooth again because I loved making crazy faces and spending time with my book buddie.

Term 2 Design Projects

Ryan and Conner presenting
their project to the class!
Last week, we worked very hard on our science design projects for forces. We presented our projects on Friday and today. We then got to share our projects with 5T and see their designs. It was a fun afternoon! Conner and Ryan wrote about the design project . . .

Last week we started our design project for science. Me and Conner are partners for our design project and our design project is called MARBLE MASH! And we are all done our design project and logbook.

The challenges for the design project was to create a design that will set a ball in motion, change its direction or speed and come to a controlled stop. The ball cannot be touched by you.

Your design must use recyclable materials (collected at home). Construction and testing of the design must be done at school.
The Outcomes:
Use appropriate vocabulary related to the investigation of forces.
Describe, using diagrams and words, the forces acting on an object.
Work cooperatively with a partner to carry out a plan, and troubleshoot problems as they arise.
Record and organize observations.

Ms. Wasney . . . AKA: Ace Ventura . . . Dr. Do-Little . . . OR The Bird Whisperer!

For all you animal lovers out there, here's a story for you . . .

At about 7:30 last night, I headed outside to take Railay for her evening walk and heard the sound of wings flapping. I was thinking that it was weird, because birds aren't seen at night very often. When I looked at the front of my house, I saw a tiny bird flapping like crazy. It looked like he was stuck on the window sill. So, I grabbed a ladder and climbed up to take a closer look. Sure enough, his tiny leg was stuck between the window frame and my house! Poor little guy! I used a screwdriver to wedge it between the frame and the wood of the house . . . and presto, he was freed! He flew off into the night with a look of relief (at least I think it was)!

Caine's Arcade

I discovered this video last year, but wanted to share it with all of you because of what we're doing in Science these days! It's about a 9 year old boy that creates an entire arcade out of cardboard boxes! The imagination of this young boy, Caine, is inspiring. I thought you'd enjoy it because of all the hard work you have been putting into your design projects for forces and motion. You can follow him on Facebook . . . which is super neat because kids all over the world share their cardboard creations too!

TWAS

This week at school we had our ‘R’ Chart celebration on Monday. We wanted to watch Hotel Transelvania and it said ‘G’ on the back. We found out before the movie when it does the new releases that is was ‘PG’ L. Then we were going to watch Hop but then it said its was ALSO ‘PG’ LL. We could’ve watched Nemo, The Increadables or Ratatouie. We ended up watching Finding Nemo. All the girls wanted to watch Nemo and most of the boys wanted to watch the Increadables.

Every one in the school got to go to Ms. Wasneys sister Leah’s photo booth. It took 4 shots at a time. Every 3 seconds It would take a photo. 3 seconds is pretty fast so sometimes you would mess up. You had to make and I heart 2 read (hold up a book) sign. For I you point at your eye, for heart you would make a heart with your hands, for 2 you had to stick up two fingers and for read you had to pretend to read a book. There was a background. It was a bunch of hearts. It was SO cool.

On Thursday we had a Valentines day party! We handed out our cards and ate the candy on period 6. We played stuff at period 8. We had Gym and Choir on 5 and 7.

Michael, Nick, and Jack

It was like a mini waterslide but it was with snow! It was so fast! We also did a slide out of frozen snow. Michael said he felt like he broke is toe on it. We also did a sleigh ride.

In science we started our design project with a partner. It is where you have to make a track and the marble stops. My group is Ty and Nat.

In gym we curled with brooms (finally)! My team was black. I scored the game-winning point JJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJ! We also did snowshoeing. It was hard.
Jack at the cup stacking
tournament!

The 5+6’s did a cup stacking tournament. Jack was the fastest 5er because he was the only grade 5. Nick P won the tournament and got a gold cup.

We did a longest line art. We had to make a line that is curvy and stuff then make hearts and colour the hearts in.  The same colours could not touch.

We had a reading comprehension test. We had to read a story then write down what happended. The story was about a baby girl who was really sick.

We are doing a Social Studies research project. I’m doing Jacques Carier. Michael is too.

The S.P.I.N. club’s buttons SOLD OUTJJJJJJJJJJJJJ! we raised $608.70 for a village in Nicaraqua to help a village!

Fun in the Photobooth for I LOVE to read month!

Maddy and Carly look VERY
happy with their unique
bookmarks!
Today Ms. Wasney`s sister Leah brought in her photobooth to share with us. We got to go in the photobooth to make a bookmark.  The photobooth takes 4 pictures. Our class got to go into the booth twice! We went in with our book buddies and Ms. Tresoor’s class. With our book buddies we pointed to our eyes, then we made a heart with our hands, then we put up 2 fingers, then we held up a book so it looked like were reading. We did it because February is I Love to Read Month. We can’t believe we had an opportunity to do something like this! It was fantastic!

Pourquoi Tale

Here is Zach with his moose mask and
Ryan with his lynx mask.
We all wrote are own version and we voted to see which one we would present or do. We decided to do “Why does the owl stay up at night?”. The three narrators were Nick M, Jack, and Nathaniel. And the main character in the story was owl. Owl had a nightmare and she didn’t want to sleep because she kept having nightmares. Then her friends told her to sleep in the day and stay up at night to hunt for food. So she decided to stay up at night.
One afternoon we made our masks. For my lynx mask, I used some fabric and one egg carton and the ears were made out of paper bags and I put some orange marbles for the eyes. For Zach’s moose mask, he used some pastels and cardboard. All the masks turned out so great!
On Tuesday we presented our story to classes. We watched other classes stories. We saw Mrs. Kohuts, Ms. Mitchells Mrs. Henrys and Mrs. Tressors classes. Mrs. Tressors class made interesting masks and Ms. Michells class had a really long story. And Mrs. Kohuts class was a cool presentation I thought. And Mrs. Henrys class had a really cool presentation.
Here is the Star Dome in the gym!
It was AWESOME!!!!!
Today, we will be seeing the Star Dome in the gym. I bet it will be good! Later, we will be sharing our story with our Book Buddies and watching their story!

Crazy for Curling!

For gym we had curling because there was a star dome in the gym. The rink was wet looking even though it was solid. It was so slippery that Mrs. Rand almost fell!
The boys went on the far side, and the girls went on the close side. We put the rocks in the snow so they could cool down because they were warm from being in a hot room. If we didn’t put them in the snow they would crack the ice.
We got to pretend to practice shooting the rocks and sliding on our tummies! It was fun sliding on our stomachs!
Then we got are rocks and the girls tried to shoot them closest to the button. The first time only 1 girl got past the hog line. Then the boys went. Most of them got past the line! Then we went over and over again! It was AWESOME!!!J

TWAS

Brrrrrrr! Another week of indoor recesses! And today, it was so cold that the buses were cancelled! Room 31 had a total of 13 students show up at school today. Some students missed because of the buses and others are out for a hockey tournament. We were lucky to have a double gym class with Mrs. Tresoor's class, it was a nice treat! We are looking forward to spending the last two periods of the day with them as well!

Ms. Wasney told us about this contest for the Winnipeg jets. We have to tell them why our class would be a great class to visit. So, we each wrote down our reasons and Mrs. Wasney read them all and put bits and pieces of all of our stories and made a new story. So today she read out the story and we all liked it. And this morning she sent it to them and she clicked the submit button and we were all so excited.
Here is us entering the "Reading Takes
Flight" Contest! Our fingers are crossed
that we win!
In gym we are learning new wrestling moves I don’t participate in it because I have to take my glasses off and I don’t like taking off my glasses but our gym teacher lets me keep them on for that one class. And we had gym with Mrs. Tresoors class and we played dodge ball it was so fun. On Thursday we had a substitute his name was Mr. Yackobooski  it was funny because he used to work at Robert Andrews school and he used to teach my brother and sister so I went up to him and asked him if he knew my sister Courtney and he said yes so it was really funny. In French we are doing our own book and in have to draw a curling rink and people roasting marshmallows I still have to finish mine. In music we are practicing a song on recorder and we have to play it in front of the class with a partner my partner is Maddy and I don’t want to play in front of the class. In library I got out a drawing book and I’m going to take it home and draw. In choir we are working with the grade 4s for the music festival.
Here is the fun attendance for
February!
In social studies we watched a Renaissance video about European explorers and we are also doing a research project and I’m studying George Vancouver it is so fun.  In math we are doing mad minute for multiplication and in a minute I got 15 questions it was so easy and we are also doing estimation and it was called front end estimation it is so easy and fun. When we had book buddies they only had 7 people in their class it was crazy and Amanda’s book buddy was away so she went with me and my book buddy and we didn’t read a lot of books. Today when we got in to the classroom there was a new attendance on the SMARTBOARD it’s like a bow and arrow and when you tap it flies in to a big heart. We had silent reading for about 25 minutes and then we had a reading response and I was reading how big is a million it was a good book so I wrote about it. In science we learned about balanced and unbalanced forces and kinetic energy it was fun.
