A different week! TWAS by Abbey

Wow! I can't believe that June is just around the corner! We had a great week, and now we're all totally looking forward to camp! Thanks to Abbey for sharing her TWAS on our class blog this week! You can check out writing from ALL the students on our Kidblog site!

Hey guys I am back for another blog post!!!! So let me start okay.
On Monday we went to the Manitoba Museum!!! The reason we went there is because we were learning about the fur trade in Social studies. But first we went inside of the science gallery!!! I followed my friends to the different parts of it!! Went into the mirror maze, the pully chairs, the race track and the laser harp!!! I had alot of fun but thats when we had to go for lunch. After that the other class joined us following some other schools! After lunch we went to the museum to learn about the fur trade so we looked at a map and then we were split up into 2 groups!! I got to go with my friends!!! We got to touch furs, touch other items and learn about the fur trade!! At the last period of the day we went outside for 30x30!! We had to write about our field trip and what we enjoyed about it, what we would tell our parents about it and yea!!! I finished mine and we got to do free time!!!
Volunteer Assembly
On Tuesday for the whole day we had a substitute!!! The substitute is fun and he is really nice. Also when we went outside he let us have free time which we never get!!! The last thing we did that day at the first period was We had math but I was and five other people setting up the gym for an assembly!!!  So mostly we were kinda off the hook for math!!! But we had to set up the gym for the volunteer assembly!! Me and Jayden were in charge of doing  the insturments. We got them done in just a few  minutes so we had to help with the chairs. After that we had to get started on our math!!
Can you see 30x30?!
On Wednesday for the morning we had a substitute!! She is really nice so I like her as a teacher!! The last thing we did on Wednesday at the last period we went to library!!! Sadly we only have 2 more library classes there:(. I am going to miss the library!! I didn`t pick out a book because I couldn`t decide. But hey at least we get a more bigger library!!!
On Thursday at the second period we learned a new type of poem!! I already know this type of poem its really easy!! Its called a Haiku peom. This is how you do a haiku poem. ecah line needs to have a certain amount of syllables. the first line has to have five , then the second line is seven syllables and then five again!! I really did alot of them!!! The last thing we did at the very last period was a special art!!  The art we started yesterday is an optical illusion. We haven`t done the third step yet but soon we will. But these are the steps. 1 draw 6 lines on the paper like triangals but all of the lines need to reach the center. 2 draw smiley faces on some of the triangals and then color them in!! Tip: When ever a triangal is done skip the next triangal then do that!!
On Friday at the first period we are working on T.W.A.S!!! We aren`t working right now but we are working in the third period. But right now I have 562 words!!! The last thing we did on Friday at the second period we had Gym!!! We were working on our serves and rallys in badminton!! I think we are close to the end of this unit!! To be honest I kinda like badminton and I kinda don`t!!
We tested our blood pressure on Friday!
I hope you enjoyed reading my T.W.A.S everyone!! So please keep reading on and peace out!!!

Manitoba Museum on a Monday!

On Monday, May 25, our class and the other class went to the Manitoba Museum. We went there to learn about the fur trade (social studies) and units in science. We got there and put our stuff in a big pull-out closet. Then we went our separate ways.

Our class first went to the Science Gallery. In the Science Gallery, there were pulley chairs you sat on the chair and pulled yourself up. Once you got to the top you let go of the rope and went down slowly. The yellow was the easiest the blue was medium and the red was the hardest. After about an hour we went into a room and did a lot of experiments. We did a lever, pulley, force, gravity spin. The force one was super cool because Brett in our class filled up the water in 4 cups. The lady had a tray with strings she put the cups in the middle and spun the tray around her head. The water stayed in the cup when she stopped spinning the tray, the water went everywhere!

We went for lunch. After that we headed up to the main museum to learn about the fur trade. We went in two groups. We learned about all different things. In one part there were cool things in a box like fur, snow shoes, dried up meat, tin cans, an axe, and more. We had free time we went on a boat which was a replica of the Nonsuch. We wish we had more time to do things. We had to wait for the other class and the grade 3’s. This field trip is worth five out of five stars.

This was a T.W.A.Some Week!

Even though it was a 4-day week, we sure packed lots in! You can read the posts from all the students in Room 31 on our Kidblog account by clicking HERE. Thanks to Matthew for sharing his post on the blog this week . . .

Hello and this is my twas for the week!

On Monday I didn't do much since we had no school but over the weekend we got a new basketball net so I mostly just did that with my dad or brother!

On Tuesday we had our 30x30 nature challenge, We did something a little special! When we got outside Ms. Wasney made us take off our shoes and socks then sit in a circle with our feet in the middle! The reason we were doing that is because there's a shoe company that sends a pair of shoes to someone in need everytime someone does #withoutshoes on instagram in a picture so thats why we did it but it was kinda funny! Later in the day we had Library! Recently I got a book called "Mark of the Thief"! I didnt get a book because I was reading that and the books about a kid named Nic and he was a slave in the mines in rome and he found a bulla that was Julius Ceasers and he got it and I dont want to spoil the rest!

On Wednesday we had word work wednesday you may be wondering whats so special about this, Well we did something called dollar words and its where you have to find a word that equals 1 dollar each letter equals a bit of money a few of the words that equaled 1 dollar were buttheads, wizard and a few more I can't remember! Oh and I almost forgot to tell you we got the idea from a book we are reading called "Because of Mr. Terupt"! Then we had Science- Muscular system! For this class we did the muscular system and we watched a few videos about the muscular system they were funny though!

On Thursday we had a fire drill in the middle of health! We were in the middle of health when the fire bell rang we all jumped and went outside and then we went back inside and finished our lesson! Later at the end of the day we went outside for 30x30 and we did word work, the word work was we had to write a type of thing for nature like each letter would be a word and we also had to see how much words we can make out of "Nature Challenge" it was pretty fun!

On Friday we had music for ONCE it was fun! You might be wondering why is it fun? Well this time we got to use big drums and we played a little tune with the big, medium, small drums it was pretty fun and cool! Next thing we are doing is Camp Arnes info! For this session we will be picking who we are partnering up with and sleeping with (on bunk beds)! I haven't chose my partner yet but it will probably be Jayden or Jaedan lol their names are the same!
Well thats all for this post until next time!

Take a pic = give shoes

Today, as part of our 30x30 Nature Challenge, we headed out and took a picture of our bare feet! The shoe company, Toms, is known for giving a pair of shoes to someone in need with every purchase.

They have a promotion (until May 21) on Instagram that if you post a picture with #withoutshoes, they will donate a pair to a child in need. You can read more about it HERE.

It was fun to feel nature beneath our feet!  :)

A week full of celebrations!

This week was a super busy one! Today, the students have the option of completing TWAS, writing about the Kiss a Goat assembly, or sharing a review of the 30x30 Nature Challenge on Kidblog. With those choices, not many students are doing TWAS, so it will be in pictures this week!

On Monday, we hosted and performed at the Kiss a Goat assembly, had math, did science - skeletal system, French, Science, 30x30 Nature Challenge, and had our very first health lesson for sensitive topics . . . we kept it easy and just reviewed the rules and discussed the question box.

On Tuesday, we had an intro to division, gym, Art - birthday cakes inspired by Wayne Thiebaud for Manitoba's 145th birthday, Lockdown Practice, 30x30 Nature Challenge - scavenger hunt, and Health.

On Wednesday, we had Music, Math, Poetry - 5W poem, Science - muscular system, art, and early dismissal.

30x30 Scavenger Hunt!
On Thursday, there was a substitute in for the day. Students did Math, Social Studies - fur trade, Science, gym, French, and read to self.

Today it is the basketball tournament, so we are missing some students, but also have some students from Ms. Dodds' class with us. Students had Music, read to self, Netbooks, math games, 30x30 Nature Challenge, and Book Buddies.

Hope you have a fantastic long weekend! Fingers crossed that the rain stops sometime to allow us to do our 30x30 at home!

A "GOATastic" Monday!

Wow! We had an excellent start to the week! The Grade 5s did a wonderful job hosting and performing at the assembly this morning. Then, the highlight . . . the BIG reveal of which staff member "won" the pleasure of kissing a goat! Mr. Hargreaves' name was announced to the squeals and cheers of the entire gym! Like a champ, he took it in stride! Then, he convinced Ms. Knoll and Mrs. Palamar to come on up and give the goat a smooch as well! Ms. Knoll was a close second and Mrs. Palamar came in third.

A thank you goes out to all the students for purchasing ballots to vote. We raised $360; which means we can provide 7 goats to families overseas! Also, to the 12 staff members for volunteering their names to be on the ballot . . . thank you for making this fundraiser so FUN! And finally, to Vince from Deer Meadows Farm for bringing Shadow the Goat down to BHS for her 10 minutes of fame!

It was a super day!

Mother's Day Art: Abstract Wildflowers

I really hope all the moms from our class and beyond had a wonderful Mother's Day! We appreciate  you more than words can say. I hope you loved the abstract wildflowers artwork as much as I did! Each one is unique; just like you. Please be sure to check out the art on Artsonia! Ms. W  :)

This week we have been working hard starting and trying to finish our Mother’s day art. We are giving our Moms a card and a framed picture of our most recent art work. The art piece that we have been working on is called wild flowers art. It is a really funky looking piece of art but still looks fabulous. Here’s what we did. Step 1 we had to splatter paint on canvas paper. It looked like a bunch of blobs but in the end everything looked good, you will see. Step 2 we had to take a thin tip Sharpie and make flower designs on the splatters of paint. There were some very creative flower designs. Some people even created a flower with super cool designs, so cool that you wouldn’t understand at first. After we were done making the flowers that first looked like odd blobs we made the stems of the flowers and some people thickened their stems, LIKE ANDREW, and some people made faces LIKE ANDREW! But it still looked great. Once we finished our art Miss Wasney put it in a picture frame and we wrapped it up with the well known, super awesome, confetti like wrapping paper. I LOVE wrapping paper. Caeden said that he loves it because it comes in all different colours at the store, and Andrew LOVES it because it comes in pink. I rate this art 5 out of 5JJJJJ. #WRAPPINGPAPERJ P.S. we also love smiley facesJJJJJ!

TWASome

On monday it was really boring because we had to go to the Legislative building unfortunately. But I kind of liked it but not really. When we were doing the tour we saw a court well it was not really a court it was more like a law maker thingerbobber. So the 2nd thing I did on monday was 30x30 chalange it's really new because we only started last week on thursday so for we've been doing really good at going outside as a class for half a hour. But this time was really boring for one reason it was the Legislative review my favourite part about the Legislative building was when of the schools performed and they were playing the drums they made in their own woods class. And the thing that made it really cool was that the teacher and all the students were deaf which was awesome. Not because they were deaf because they sounded really good and if you saw closely they moved at every big beat the did but I bet they planned that but still that was kind of cool. And the ling I really disliked was when we performed because my cousin was performing a really cool song with rock instruments.

On tuesday we had our roof top roof top photo which was really boring because we were in the back row and you will never see us soi why would we even have to be in the picture anyway right. And the bad thing but action part that made Postey laugh was that the camra almost fell of the roof right on to the ground but she just got the camra before thats the bummer. And while other thing we did whilke we waited for classes to come caeden posty and dobie and I told Zach to give his i pod to Ms. Dyck but he did not listen and lost it but I think Ms. Stomp found it and gave it to him. The other thing we did on Tuesday was was computer lab which was I think odd because we mostly only go to the computer lab for twas but this time we went to right our favourite moment of BHS . For 100 Anniversary of East ST paul so hopefully my name goes in that book. The thing I put on the best moment was field day in kindergarten.

On wednesday was an ok day because our 30x30 was doing our Mother's Day envelopes mine is ok because I am working really hard and I can do it on Monday or tuesday because my mom is in sweden and she does not come back in till tuesday afternoon so our mothers day will be on tuesday but most peoples will be on sunday in 2 days. And the other thing we did on wednesday was gym this gym class was awesome because Mr. Augestin was there and when we playted our first game goose hunt I had a lot of questions so he said I would be the only one he is going to go for and that was true but he did not say that I would be the first one to get out and I was one of the very last ones know I think that is pretty cool so for know on I am the true king dodge and not caeden any more. So now hopefulley everyone will want me on there team.

On thursday was an ok day the 1 thing I did on thursday was an science group well more like one person came to our class to do and demo on sicence and the cool thing was that we got to make somthing a bounce ball which was awesome because mine worked but not that much did there wee probaly four peoples who did not work one of them was my best friend leif mine too almost did not work but it just did and the 2nd thing we did on thursday was our book buddies and I kind of think it is weird that we are called book buddies when we did not even read that day we did cards for our volunteers at an assembly ours not to brag but she is almost as good as me at drawing.

On Friday was awesome because I left at lunch an I did'nt come back because I have a hockey tornament and my game is at 2:45 but the thing I did on friday was twas it was really bad because it was on the netbooks so that stunk but I bet you this was the first time I got over 500 on the netbooks. And we also had choir wow that sucked a lot and everyone knew that.

Kiss a Goat . . . to be revealed at the assembly!

Wow! I am so excited about the success of the "We Create Change" campaign! Over the last week, all students had the opportunity to purchase ballots for $2 to vote on a staff member to KISS A GOAT! We raised a total of $360! That means we can provide 7 goats to families overseas!

Who will it be?! Wait and see!

Be there at the 9:45 assembly on Monday, May 11th.

The Grade 5s are hosting and performing at the assembly. They are asked to wear all black. Thank you!

30x30 Nature Challenge: Review

I think I like the 30 by 30 Nature Challenge. It’s kind of difficult because it’s getting cold, windy and only sometimes it’s nice out. Most of the time I go for walks with my dog or if it’s really nice out I’ll go on the trampoline. This Thursday was rainy so we couldn’t go outside, but only in the afternoon it was not rainy and really cold.

I totally forgot to fill my sheet out for how many minutes I went outside for but I went outside for at least 20 or 25 minutes a day. I’ll try to remember what I did then I will try to fill it out!

I think this 30 by 30 challenge is rated 4/5 stars in the cold weather and 5/5 in the warm weather!
