Spirit Week and Surprise Sundaes!

This week was super fun in Room 31. It was awesome to see so many students participate in our "spur of the moment" Spirit Week! We managed a quick art job when Ms. Koehn stopped by for a visit on Tuesday. Wednesday was busy with a Buddy Activity for the entire afternoon with lots of different stations do visit throughout the school! Yesterday, we received some mail (bookmarks) from the Winnipeg Jets! Today, we said goodbye to Brady and hello to Spring Break with a "make your own sundae" party! We also celebrated filling up the "M Chart" by having a game day . . . lots of students brought in fun games to play with one another!

I hope everyone has a fantastic week off from school! I'm looking forward to hearing all about your adventures!

Music Festival ends a busy week!

This week at school we had the music festival to end of the week. Keep reading to see more about it!

See this art on Artsonia!
One thing we did on Monday is Gym. What we did in gym is we played ringette. That class was sort of bad because we played ringette and I hate ringette. But now were done with ringette and now were playing hockey. Another thing we did Monday is art. The guy who made the art was James Rizzi bird art. James Rizzi was a famous artist because of what he did. What he did was doing his art on an airplane and did it on a pair of shoes. The art we did was a bird and the paint you use is water colour paint.

Lever experiment for Science!
One thing we did on Tuesday is Mr. Zajac as a substitute. I like Mr. Zajac as a substitute because his brother plays in the NHL, and he is really nice to us. But one thing that I don’t like about him is he doesn’t let us talk in the computer. So that’s why I still like Miss Wasney better. Another thing we did on Tuesday is Computer. What we had to do in the computer lab is write about our European explorer person. What I did was Sir John Franklin.

One thing we did on Wednesday is courage writing. What I wrote about is when I went to Minneapolis and we went to the mall of America and I had courage to go on the sponge bob ride and go on the drop. Another thing we did on Wednesday is gym. What we did in gym was we played zone hockey. The zone hockey was really boring because you only had to stay in one zone. But the position I played was center and I got most of the goals.

Practice, practice, practice!
One thing we did on Thursday is new class room jobs. The job I got was line leader. I really like my job because I love being a leader and being at the front of the line. Another thing we did on Thursday is Book Buddies. What we did in book buddies are well we didn’t do any activities all we did was read a book to our little buddies. We only had ten minutes to read to our little buddies because we had to practice our songs for the music festival.

Silver at the Music Festival!
One thing we did on Friday is Gym. This time we did gym outside because there were instruments in the gym. So what we did was baseball. What we had to do was throw a tennis ball. The first time I through it got caught but everyone knew I was going to and it was throw it far and I did. The second time I didn’t get to throw. Another thing we did on Friday is library. This library the people only who needed books went and I didn’t need any books so I didn’t go. This morning it was the Music Festival. We got a silver! I was surprised!

Camp Arnes Fundraiser!

Thanks to Matthew P for helping me sort through 185 reusable snack bags today! The Grade 5s were invited to participate in a fundraiser with Colibri, a MB based business, to help with the cost of attending Camp Arnes in June. The students that chose to sell the snack bags will have their camp fees reduced by a portion, depending on their sales. As a result of their excellent sales skills, 2 students are heading to camp for FREE! Wow!

Great job Adam and Matthew P!

Just a reminder that a $65 deposit is due on Friday, March 20th.

Thanks for supporting this fundraiser . . . especially all the staff that placed orders!  :)

Funky Spring Birds

This week we made some new art! We did Funky Spring Birds in the style of James Rizzi. James Rizzi designed a Boeing with the Rizzi birds! He also had some art on postage stamps for Germany. James Rizzi is known for his colourful buildings and skyscrapers.

The first step to the art is to draw your bird. You could do the bird facing sideways, towards you or flying. Then you have to go over the bird in black oil pastel. After that, you get called up to the table to paint. You could either make your bird with lots of colors or the paint the background with lots of colours. After it dries you are done.

I liked this art lots and I rate it 5 out of 5 stars!

Thanks!

I really love the student-led conferences in March! It's such a great time to celebrate the students! Everyone is excited to share work with their families and the students enjoy being bragged about! Ha! Thanks for a wonderful 2nd term of Grade 5! The last part of the year will just FLY by!

Also, a BIG thank you to everyone for contributing something for Matthew and his family. I was blown away by the generosity of the students and families in Room 31.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Report Cards + Portfolio Prep = a busy, but short week!

This week was awesome because we got our report cards!

On Monday, we did this thing that was called “Courage”. We had to write courage on our writer’s notebook. We had to think of things that mean Courage. We had to come up with the examples at our table group. My paper was filled with things that means courage. At the end of the day we had to hand out our report cards. I was very nervous to see what I got. I was very happy what I got. Matt. P in our class was being funny. He almost got stuck in the recycling bin when the envelopes were being handed out.

We had a busy 2nd term!
On Tuesday, we had to do the strength-a-thon with a pedometer. All the steps I did was 693. I started the strength-a-thon at skipping. The very last thing I did was ropes my favourite! My least favourite one is burpees. My goal was to beat my score from the last strength-a-thon. Later in the day we had portfolios. Our job was to write slips for our papers. I did almost all of the slips. When I was doing my portfolios I looked at all of my last term things.

Comic Life sheets!
On Wednesday, we had book buddies. We did some reading and we played a card game. We played the game tens up. I think our buddy won by one. We read the book called Bailey. The book was all about a dog going to school. The book buddies time felt like ten minutes. Later in the day we had term two tribune. We had to write about 4-5 things. We had brainstorm for thing we want to write about. We filled up a paper on the computer. I wrote about four things. My picture I drew was my shamrock art.

Sharing our portfolios!
On Thursday, we shared our festival piece with 5D. Our second piece of music was not good because our flower was not forming right. For the festival we have to have different fans. The fans were stiffer. 5D pieces was awesome. My favourite one they did was parse the fire. Later in the day we had math. We had a pop quiz. It was about estimating. The first part was easy then the back I got all confused. The back was all about problem solving. I was happy because I didn’t get messed up.

On Friday, we have no school! I’m going to dance and go see my grandma!

TWAS

This week at school went by so fast like a blink of the eye!!!!

On Monday we shared our science design projects with the other grade 5 class and they all liked it. Their projects were really cool too because some of the materials were like pipes and lots of recyclable material. I liked this science project because no project looked the same they all looked different. Another thing we did on Monday was Gym but as usual it was gymnastics but luckily it was the last class so we were all done with our skills and making up a routine.

On Tuesday first thing we did was change new spots and now I am sitting beside Jason, Matthew m. and Abbey and POTSY is right behind me. Another thing we did was the longest line art with shamrocks you have to make shamrocks and trace them then color them in wherever all of the lines are.

On Wednesday we did word work Wednesday but it was really easy the word was veterinarian and I was the first one to spell it right. There was still lots of time left so lots of other kids made up words. I suggested the word ----------- to Ms. Wasney for next week. Another thing we did on Wednesday was Gym and we finally finished gymnastics and started playing sponge polo. Our squad won against Matthew and Andrew's team by 1 goal.

On Thursday we started term 2 comic life. And we had to finish them that day mine looks really good because I custom my background with a whole bunch of different colours. Another thing we did was do some more research of our European explorer. We found a few more facts but there isn’t always a lot of information on John Cabot.

On Friday I am just finishing up T.W.A.S right now. We just came back from gym and it was divided up one side was Hockey and the other side was Soccer.
