Today, we had an assembly! I like them because I have a chance to celebrate the hard work my team of Peacemakers do all year long! Emmy was recognized with Brooke (from 5T) today for being Peacemakers of the Month for March. Thanks girls!
It was pretty funny and a HUGE surprise for Emmy because she's been asking when our next Peacemakers meeting was going to be. She even asked me first thing this morning! When I asked why, she replied that she wanted to know who would be the Peacemaker of the Month! Wow! Did she read my mind?! Ha Ha

Clubs!
Registration forms were sent home today about the Art Club and Mad Science. Both clubs take place before school, starting in April. Registration and payment is due on April 8th. I'm hoping the keen kids of Room 31 think about joining!
As well, I am pleased to see SO many students signed up for mini handball and basketball! It's so great to see everyone get involved here at BHS! Way to go! :)

Rainy Day Umbrellas!
Yesterday, we made some adorable "First Day of Spring" Art . . . even though the weather isn't feeling like Spring yet! We have received loads of compliments so far. I think everyone is craving a little "brightness" in our days! You can check out this art on Artsonia by clicking HERE.
On Thursday
we did a spring art. We used a pencil and traced or drew our own umbrella then
we added a rectangle for the body and added some details like the buttons, the
pocket and the zipper. Then we took oil pastels and coloured it all in. My
umbrella is Metallic Purple and Sky Blue. We also coloured in the coat. My coat
is neon pink. My rainboots are black. You could choose if you added raindrops.
I did because I think it looks better with an umbrella. We also could add a
puddle underneath our boots. Then we could add some bright healthy green grass
to make it look springier. After that we went to the bean table and painted the
background. There were two shades of blue. One was more turquoise and the other
was a darker blue. I picked the darker blue. Then we put it on the drying rack.
I really liked doing this art!!!!

TWAS
On Monday we had gym class we played a game where your team has to tag as many people as you can then if you get tagged you have to go to their team. Then we also played olly octopus. That is where you have to run across the middle of the gym when people try to tag you. And if you get tagged you have to be seaweed in the middle of the gym on the floor. Then we had Health keep and speak secrets that is where if someone told you that they like a girl in your class you would keep that secret and if someone told you that their hockey coach was hurting you. You would speak that secret.
On Tuesday we had social studies our European
explorer research. I finished all of my research so now I am putting all of my
pictures and writing on a coloured piece of paper. Then we had gym class this
time we went outside and played soccer baseball. Well our gym teacher set up
all of the hoops we got to play on the play structure. Then he called us over
to play the game. First he told us how to play we have to kick the ball well
people are in the field trying to catch the ball when it comes. And we have to
run around all of the hoops and get back to the start and that is a home run.
When I kicked I got a home run.
On Wednesday we got to do this really cool thing
called an expert project. That is where we get to pick anything like hockey or
a person and we get to study them. I picked to study Dufferin Roblin he made
the floodway. So Winnipeg wouldn’t flood and all most of the water in the
floodway goes to the red river. Then we had gym class this time we also went
outside again. We played soccer baseball again and the other grade fives where
outside snowshoeing.
On Thursday we had art class we made a person
under an umbrella with oil pastels first we drew a person with an umbrella with
pencil then we coloured him in with pastels. After all of that we could put the
outline in black. And also put raindrops around it too with a puddle on the
ground. When we finished that we went to Ms. Wasney’s table and painted the sky
around the guy. Then we had music we sang a song just like the drunken sailor
but a little bit different. And we got to go on the instruments and play a song
with our music teacher.
On Friday we are doing TWAS in the computer lab
I have 467 word right now. Then we will have read to self I will read The One
and Only Ivan. Then we will have math class then French and book buddies and
gym at the end of the day

Cole and his Comic Life |
Boys' Choir |
On Tuesday we went to the computer lab. We went there to study our explorers and
do an awesome portfolio job. We had to do a comic life. Then we kept on doing
portfolio jobs. Then we had French. I didn’t really do anything because all the guys who weren’t done
their project had to do it. Then we went to gym again and after that we got cookies from Mrs. Knoll. I was all like
num, num, num.
On
Wednesday we had to work on our portfolios again. I forget what we did in them though.
Then we had music. I almost got in trouble. Then we had library. I returned my
books finally. Then we got new spots finally.

TWAS in pictures!
New attendance for March! |
We are not doing a formal TWAS this week . . . instead, I will share what we were up to in pictures! All of these pictures are from our class Instagram account - follow us at: @mswasneysclass
We've had lots of choir practices all week. We had an estimation quiz, researched our European explorer, finished an art job, enjoyed a full activity day for the Winter Olympics on Wednesday, worked on word work, and started our Comic Life posters for our portfolios. The girls went to the Music Festival on Friday and received a SILVER! Woohoo! We even snuck in a visit with our Grade 1 Book Buddies!
Word Work was not solved! Here are the letters to work with:

Shamrock Art
Throughout the past few days we’ve been working on Shamrock Art.
It was fun, dirty, and smelly!
STEP 1: Shaving cream and paint!
To start this art, Ms. Wasney sprayed
Shaving Cream on a cookie sheet and squirted 3 different colours of green paint
on top. Then we took a Popsicle Stick and blended it in until it looked all
swirly. Then, you took a piece of white computer paper and pressed it on. Then
you would pull it off, going towards the right. Then, you wait a few minutes
and scrape it off the paper with a scraper. Then you put it on the drying rack.
STEP 2: cutting and gluing.
The second step is to take your paper off
the drying rack. Then you have to trace shamrocks on the back. Or you could
draw your own shamrocks. You can choose where you want to put them and you are
the one person who decides what part of the designs you want to put on the
shamrocks. Then you cut out the shamrocks. And then you glue them on the paper.
And now you’re DONE!
