Festival du Voyageur!

We had the most perfect day for our field trip to the Festival du Voyageur! The sun was shining, kids were smiling, and the snow sculptures were spectacular!

Yesterday we went to Festival Du Voyageur. It was really cool. We got to go to a whole bunch of different programs. The first one we went to was called The Maple Forest. We learned about sap and how you collect it from the trees. It was cool because we learned about the sap collector. The next activity we did was we got to make the maple syrup taffy. It was really easy to make because the guy who worked there poured a thin strip of hot maple syrup on a snow counter. Then we took a Popsicle stick and rolled it up on the taffy. It tasted really good but it fell off the stick a lot, so we had to get baby wipes to wipe off all the syrup. Then we got to look at the ice sculptures. They were really awesome because they were all hand carved.

Then we had lunch. Ten minutes before lunch we got to go buy mini donuts, cotton candy, fresh squeezed lemonade and bottled drinks. They also even had beaver tails. We were surprised. Then we ate lunch. For lunch we sat in a room in Fort Gilbraltar and there were no tables. So we had to eat on our laps. Then we to the souvenir shop. Jayden got a ring with her birth stone on it and Madison got a pair of earrings and two bracelets. One for her and one for her sister. She also got her face painted and it was her name on her cheek with three little hearts and a little bit of glitter. After that we went to a presentation of the Women of the Era. It was cool because we got to write our names in Cree. After that we left and came back to school. Madison`s thoughts on the field trip were: that it was great and she would love to go again. Jayden`s thoughts: it was really fun and I want to go again next year if we can.
