Designing a Weather Vane
Last week, we did a science design project. We had to make
weather vanes. We could only use these materials: a wooden dowel, manila tag
paper, I meter of tape, orange plasticine, 4 straight pins, ruler, 4 straws,
scissors, markers and a pencil. It was a little tricky because those were the only
materials we could use. The reason we needed to make a weather vane was because
the local skydiving company needed a weather vane to determine the wind
direction. This is some of the criteria for our weather vane: the weather vane
needed to have the 4 cardinal wind directions (N,E,S,W), it had to withstand 2
different wind speeds, must be reliable during numerous tests and design should
promote the local skydiving company. We
had to fill out a logbook and sketch out a design of our project. We worked in
our table groups. Most table groups finished in two days. We also had to make
names for our skydiving company. Emmy’s was UFO Skydiving and mine was Jumpin
George’s Skydiving Palace. So then Ms.Wasney tested them with a hair dryer on
high and on low. It was a very fun project!!!!
