TWAS in pictures!

Whew! Even though this was a 4-day week, it sure was a busy one! We didn't do a formal TWAS this week, so I will briefly share what we were up to! All of the square photos are from our class instagram account. Follow us at: @mswasneysclass!

Monday was a very eventful day! We had our very first Expert Project presentation. Madison used the online flyer creator, "Smore" to present her research about Nailpolish. I think more students are eager to present now! Near the end of the day, we had a fire drill for over an hour!

Tuesday was filled with wrapping up the European Explorer project presentations, Choir practices, and an Earth Day activity.

Wednesday was the BIG day . . . Happy 100th Anniversary to Bird's Hill School! It was a lovely turnout of former and current staff, students, and families. The gym was packed during a formal program, where the girls and boys choir and the Grade 6 classes performed their music festival pieces. We were also treated to snacks, a Children's concert, and had a blast in a photobooth (provided by my sister)! Hopefully you had a chance to purchase a button or postcard to commemorate the event!

This morning, we had a fantastic time at the WSO's "Raiders of the Lost Art" program. It was extra special because several Bird's Hill students (including 5 from Room 31) were on stage performing some drama pieces that went along with the music! I thought Brayden, Gavin, Haley, Hannah, and Madison all did a wonderful job! They looked so professional up on stage!

Finally, throw in Mad Science, Art Club, Basketball & Handball practices and . . . .that was our week!

S.P.I.N. Club News

Today, we had 95 staff and students participate in the We are Silent campaign. Students in Grades 4, 5, and 6 had the opportunity to purchase a tag to wear for the day to show that they were going silent for children around the world. It was awesome that we had quite a few students in Room 31 give this a try!

Also, I had some great helpers sorting, counting, and rolling coins that were donated through the We Create Change campaign. We are so excited that BHS collected $506.94! That is FANTASTIC! This will be going towards building a school in Nicaragua. It's so cool seeing kids helping kids! Way to go! Thanks for your support!

On Monday we wrote our BHS 100th anniversary memory sheet and mine is my favourite thing from BHS is going to Wheelies with the patrols and my 2nd is I liked going on field trips every year and those are my memories. On Wednesday the patrols went to Wheelies. On the trip to wheelies everybody was talking on the bus and I was sitting next to Ms. Wasney and we were talking. When we got there we went inside the building and roller skated it was fun and I bought a drink for about 1.99 and it was Dr. Pepper it was YUMMY!!! Decorah Eagles: Tips

Just like us in Room 31, my parents really enjoy checking in on the Decorah Eagles on a regular basis. My mom was actually the one to tell me the eggs had hatched and the baby eaglets were on display! Now, thanks to my dad and a Youtube video, we are able to figure out the difference between the mother and father eagle! Youtube is blocked for students at school, but hopefully you can see the video at home!

TWAS

Emily and the book buddy craft!
This week, was kind of slow and easy. On Monday, we shared about our spring break we started off with 3 facts, 2 things that surprised you and one thing that you miss now that spring beak is over. Then we did the instagram calendar. It’s when you can sign up for a day in April and take of photo on Ms. Wasney’s phone or ipad and post it on instagram. In math we did 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication.  We also had French. In French we created a book of what we don’t like and what we do like.

On Tuesday, some people had W.S.O. so the rest of the class did read to self or write to self. I chose read to self and I read wonder. We also got new spots I sit with Taylor.T, Chelsea and Ted and we also got new name tags. They are umbrellas. We went to the computer lab to work on our expert project. I am not even close to being done. We also had health. In health Ms. Wasney read a story about internet safety to us and we had to make predictions.

On Wednesday, it was day of pink I wore my day of pink t-shirt that I ordered. We made pink wrist bands. We had choir and we sang some African song. We had gym, in gym we did badminton.  I am really good my surf in badminton.  In science, we learned more about the screw. We also had early dismissal @ 3:10.

On Thursday, we did word work, the word was celebrating. We did more 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication.  We had gym, in gym, we did more badminton. We also did an egg craft with our book buddies. The egg turned out really cool.

On Friday, we watched the Decorah eagles on the blog. We did correcting in math. We did T.W.A.S in the computer lab. We had French. We had gym and library at the end of the day. We also had a sub in the afternoon.

Decorah Eagles live on USTREAM

The 7 students that were the Grade 3s in my 3/4 class two years ago will remember watching the Decorah Eagles online. Last year, the eagles made a new nest and no viewings were available. This year, the cameras are up and running! All three eggs have now hatched and the baby eaglets are all different sizes. It's super neat to watch the little ones grow and to see how the parents care for them! Just think, the nest is 5 feet deep, and 6 feet wide . . . that's about the same size as the table group you sit at! Wow! You can see for yourself by clicking below, or on the link on the right side of the blog. Happy Watching! I promise you'll be hooked! Warning: there's a short ad you have to watch before the live stream is shown.

Shhhhh! We are silent campaign . . . .

The S.P.I.N. Club is running the We are Silent campaign on April 17th. Students all over the world are going silent in support of children's rights. You can participate in this campaign by purchasing a tag for $1 and going silent for the day.

UNICEF update!

We returned to school after a wonderful week off for Spring Break to find a special delivery from UNICEF! It was a framed certificate recognizing our hard work "way-back-when" in October with the UNICEF campaign. BHS made it into the top 3 schools for fundraising in Manitoba AGAIN! Woohoo!

I am excited by this, as I love running the campaign each year with my students. Thanks for supporting this worthy cause!
