Ability Awareness Day

Today, all students in Grades 4, 5, and 6 participated in Ability Awareness Day at BHS. We had several special guests in the school to coordinate 7 different stations to learn about visible and invisible abilities. The stations included activities for; fine motor, vision, learning disablities, cognition, mobility, speech & language, and hearing. It was a great morning for the students in Room 31! What was the most surprising thing you learned from the day?

Here is Michael using a
wheelchair to navigate
the hallway!
Today at school we did an ability awareness thing in the morning. We learned about people in our school with different abilities like Keaston, Austin or Jessica. We also learned about people we might also know that use sign language or have impaired vision. One of my favourite activities was the first station my group went to. That was the wheel chair part. We learned about how other people can walk and about how people travel places. Then we got to try for our self in a wheel chair. It was really hard going up ramps. There were some really cool stations today. I hope we could do something like this again.          By: Michael
