New Year's Art

We have been working on two pieces of art in the last two days. We all have worked very hard on both of them.

The first art we did was name art. It was using positive and negative space. Some kids already have two name arts from the beginning of the year.  This name art was different because we wrote our name plus we had to add four numbers for the 2014. This is what made it a New Year’s art. We got a blank piece of paper and we had to use our rulers to draw boxes for however many letters are in our name plus the four for 2014. Inside the boxes we drew block or bubble letters. Madison did 8 boxes and she used turquoise as her colour. She didn’t use her full name she just used Madi. Hannah used 10 boxes and the colour teal. She decided to use shadows behind the letters. We would alternate the colour pattern which is where it became positive and negative. We all had fun doing this art and we really enjoyed doing another name art.

The second art we did was New Year’s Crackers. We had the choice of using two or one piece of tissue paper. If we had two pieces you could cut shapes into the paper to make a pattern. We had a wide variety of tissue paper: blue, orange, pink, purple, yellow, and green. Then we had to wrap a toilet paper roll with the tissue paper and then tape it. Then we had to get either pipe cleaner or ribbon and curl it and then we had to write our goal on a label and then stick it on. There you go . . . a New Year’s cracker!
