PJ Day, Backwards Day, AND Crazy Hair Day!

Room 31 celebrated the last day of school before the Christmas holidays in style! We decided to have a PJ Day, Backwards Day, AND Crazy Hair Day today! The morning ended with the entire school meeting in the gym to sing Christmas Carols. It was so much fun! We also fit in a movie and lots of yummy snacks throughout the day! I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and I'm looking forward to hearing all about your holidays!

Hope this video gets you in the Christmas spirit! The energy in the gym was awesome . . . even though not all of us Grade 5ers were singing!

Gingerbread Men!

Madison and Carly decorating
Gingerbread Men!
On Dec. 19 (Wednesday) we went to our book buddies. We made gingerbread men. When we got there we had to find our book buddies at a table. When we found them we sat down next to them. Then we had to wait for instructions. We got to have our own gingerbread men to decorate. After that we started to decorate our gingerbread men.  There was candy and icing. You had to dip your candy into the icing, and then you stuck it on the gingerbread men! You got to decorate the gingerbread men ANY way you want to.
We had to wait for EVERYONE to finish decorating their gingerbread men, then you can eat it.  We decorated the gingerbread men then we read a poem called Gingerbread Children to our book buddies. After reading your book buddies the poem we just read winter books to them. The gingerbread men were very good!

Holiday Hamper Helpers!

Today, we went to a local church with Mrs. Tresoor's class to sort items for hampers for families in our area. During the past week, BHS collected 265 pounds of food and toys! Wow! Even though we were only at the church for an hour, we were kept very busy . . . sorting food, toys, and money. We even had a chance to wrap gifts for the hampers! Just before we left to return to school, we were treated to a snack of juice and popcorn. My favourite part of the day was when several students said how great they felt about helping others! Awwwww! Now, that's the holiday spirit!

S.P.I.N. Club Update!

Well, the K to 4 Christmas Concert was a success today! Not only did the students put on a wonderful performance, but ALL of the gift tags that the S.P.I.N. Club made sold out! Woohoo! We raised $460 for a village in Nicaragua through our partnership with Me to We. We also received an amazing amount of non-perishable items for hampers for families in our area. We are looking forward to our field trip on Friday when our class and Mrs. Tresoor's class will go to a local church and sort items for the hampers. And finally, our penny drive is about to wrap up . . . we have collected more than $600 in PENNIES! That is enough to provide clean water for at least 25 people for their entire lives! Wow! I am so proud of BHS students and our community for supporting these fundraisers. I am especially happy that many of the Grade 5s have been so keen to join this club! Way to go! We are making a difference!

This week in science we researched about a severe weather i was researching about droughts. I like researching about droughts.
This week in art we made birch bark trees. First you would get a piece of white paper and a biger piece of beige paper and tape them together tightley. Then you would cut out a tree from the tape that was on your table and put it on the paper tightley. Then you would cut out some branches and put them on tightley. Then you would paint over it with light and dark blue and purple. Then you would shake some salt on the paper when it’s wet. Then you let it dry. Then you take the tape of. Then draw black lines to make it look like birch bark. Then you were done you would draw gray lines to make a shadow. If you wanted to you could put snow flakes on with the bottom of a paint brush.
