Month in Review!

At the end of every month, we do a self reflection. First, as a class, we brainstorm all the things we did during the month . . .

It really looks like we haven't done too much! Well . . . December IS a short month!

Noah volunteered to type some of his reflection up on the blog!

This month, I enjoyed the PJ party.
I wish we would have another Christmas concert
I think I was good at the gingerbread man we painted.
Some other things we did this month are the place value challenge game, our winter fun booklet, the Canada research project (I did Ontario), and the netbooks came to our class.

TWAS!

We are starting to publish our TWAS (This Week At School) on our blog! Alyssa is our first volunteer! I can't believe how much she typed! Way to go Alyssa! You're really going to challenge the next students that post TWAS after you!

 TWAS         Dec. 16
Something that was new for me was the blog we started and we have links for different things like Artsonia and grade 3s bean plants and grade 4s light project.  Ms. Wasney even put a link that is called Railay and it shows videos with Railay and Ms Wasneys sisters dog named Wilton. It is so cute because they were so small.  They almost look alike when they were small. Something that was also new was the nutcracker and I was a part for an instrument and now Cole did not want to be a solider so I took his place for it.  We even get wooden swords for the Christmas concert.  Something else that was new for me was the holiday traditions. What you need to do is you have a blue piece of paper and it would ask you questions and you would answer and then Ms wasney  would give you a white piece of paper and you make it into a sentence. It would need to have a lot of detail in the sentence. Then when you were done you would get a netbook and go on word and type it all up and then ms wasney had some fancy winter Christmas paper and then she would print it off for you and she did the kind of paper that you signed up for.  Then Ms wasney put it up on the bulletin board in the classroom. Then who ever comes in the classroom will see everyone’s.  they look awesome!!!
I enjoyed having jungle gym Mr Kusiks class came too. My brother is in that class and you would need to partner up with them and I chose my brother for a partner and it was so much fun because there were all different stations to go to.  I also enjoyed doing all the different kinds of Christmassy winter art.  We did so much art. We did snowflake art and this is how you do it Ms Wasney had cut up a  whole bunch of white squares and  Ms Wasney was very nice and she got some  templates and there are all different kinds but you would need to have at least one that is one that you made all by yourself so you could  do all three your own like I did or you could do two templates and one of your own or one template and two of your own.  It was so much fun. Ms Wasney and Renee cut up some more just for us to do for fun. We also did the ornament art. Ms Wasney cut up some tracers of different kinds of ornaments and then we used oil pastels to colour and draw in. Then you would get a black pastel  and out line around the ornaments.  We also made these snowman ornaments.
On Saturday December 17th  which is tomorrow it is  IT IS MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!   I AM TURNING 8.   Whenever someone has a birthday Ms Wasney has a big box full of stuff like books, marbles, pens, pencil cases, and notebooks.

We've been working on some fun winter art these days! It's hard to believe that Christmas is just over a week away, especially since we don't have lots of snow . . . yet! I hope you enjoy the video!

Conservatory Field Trip - November 4th, 2011

Way back in November, we went on a field trip to the Assiniboine Park Conservatory to participate in a program called "Plantzilla" where we learned about carnivorous plants. We toured the palm house, made venus fly trap puppets, and even planted our own plants to take home. A BIG thank you to Mrs. Porco and Ms. Booth for joining us that day!

Bird's Hill unites for UNICEF!

For the 2nd year in a row, 3/4W was in charge of the UNICEF campaign for Bird's Hill School during October. We made posters, hosted an assembly, updated the giant graph daily, made morning announcements, and counted and rolled LOTS of money! Bird's Hill School raised over $2400 this year! That's $1000 more than last year! Our hard work even gained us recognition on the divisional website!

Grade 3 Bean Plants!

At our recent student-led conferences, the Grade 3 students of Room 5 showed off their bean plants. We worked very hard planting, caring for, and documenting the growth of our bean plants. After 3 different plantings, 3 plants were VERY stubborn, and just did not want to grow! However, one student was pleasantly surprised, when after a weekend, she came to school to find her plant growing! Yay!!! Take a peek at the video . . .

Welcome!

Welcome to our class blog! I thought I'd give this a whirl . . .

I will still be maintaining my teacher website on the Bird's Hill webpage, however, I think this will be a fun way for the students to contribute to blog posts. I will continue to post photos on the original teacher website, but it's WAY more fun to see a slideshow with music! As one student mentioned recently, "Ms. Wasney, we sure do a lot of art in here". I truly value creativity! Take a peek to see some of the amazing artists in Room 5 . . .
