TWAS . . . a 4 day week!
This short week FLEW by! The SPIN Club launched "Socktober", which has been successful so far! We also started Science Design, which has kept us really busy! Thanks to Angela for sharing her TWAS on the blog this week! All of the square pictures below are from our class Instagram account. You should follow us!
On Monday, we started our
weather vane project for science. A weather vane is an instrument that is used
to show which direction the wind came from and where it is going. It usually
has something on the top of it for the wind to push against. We are making our
own weather vanes with an airplane of top! We called our weather vane the Air Crafter.
On Monday, we also made a
flip value chart in math. We made it to help us with our math during large
numbers term. We took a piece of paper and we cut it in a certain way so it’s
like a book but with a whole bunch of flaps. We wrote a number (BIG) on the front
of the flip chart and underline a number. Then we open it and we write the amount
of the underlined digit. I thought it was cool I guess it will help at one
point.
On Wednesday, we had…..WORD
WORK WEDNESDAY! I and Aria never get any big words. I think the biggest word I
ever got was six letters. But we do have some smarty-pants in our class. One
time, someone almost got the eleven letter word just when we started. This
time, the secret word was kind-hearted. I’ve never even heard of that word
before. Oh well, that’s fine with me as long as I found a few words.
On Thursday I have to go
into the future again! Ok here we go! ZOOOM! Ok here we are, oh hey look! There
am me reading my book of Guinness book of world records sitting in the corner
of the class. Wow! It’s cool to go into the future and watch myself. But at the
same time, it’s very creepy.
Again, this week went by in
a flash!
On Tuesday, our class made
our own BHS playground expectations on the SMART Board. Well, not really we
used the ones that already exist like keep hands and feet to you. It was tricky, but if you cheat by looking in
your agenda it’s not that hard. I promise I didn’t cheat.
On Tuesday, we had our R
chart celebration! We voted on what we wanted to do on Monday, I think. We
voted on a free time gym class and an extra computer lab. I wanted to do baking
when we voted because I never get to do baking at home and it would be fun to
make a yummy chocolate chip cookie of your own. OF COURSE! But baking only got
three people, and that was a disappointment.
On Wednesday, we started
doing our science design. First Jessica made us a clay support to stick the
dowel into. Then Aria made the north, south, east and west arrows. We stuck
straws to the dowel using tape and with pins and clay. Once we got the
directions on, I made the airplane the shows which way the wind is gusting. We
had to change our plans, we were not going to put it on the top anymore, we
were going to tape a loop of paper on the back to it will move
On Thursday, we had TWAS in
the computer lab. Yes I am doing right now, right as you speak. Somehow I have
490 words wait no, 494. Somehow the computer is tricking me ha ha ha! I am
writing about what I am writing about. Now doesn’t that make sense? Of course
it does!
All I have to say about
Friday is……NO SCHOOL! (YAY)

R Chart Celebration!
You’re probably wondering what that is,
It’s a huge bubble letter R with circles in the middle. We color it in when we
walk nicely to gym, music and library. And if we’re not talking in class she
will also give our class an extra circle. If we get a compliment from another
teacher, we can get a bonus circle. When we color them all in we get to vote on
a class activity and we chose free computer lab time and a free gym class.
Jason was leaving the next day so we had to do it before or after he got back
and we chose before he leaves. We’re trying to fill in all the dots and try and
spell ROOM 31. It’s going to be tough!

Calling all plastic bags!
The Grade 4 Green Team is collecting plastic bags as part of Take Pride Winnipeg's "Bag Up Manitoba" campaign. Last year, BHS collected just over 3000 bags! Bring in clean plastic bags and keep them out of the landfill! The Green Team will be collecting bags until November 1st.
Rainy Day TWAS
This week was really fun!
On
Monday we had music. We are learning a new song on recorder called `Turkey
Turkey`. It’s not that hard but I still
need to practice. All of us learned it in one day. We are also still doing the
song `Happy`. It was a good song until Ms. Knoll added actions. Then I was just
embarrassed. We also learned a warm up song. It is called `Ah poor bird`. It is
the easiest song in the history of songs. I can’t wait for the next music class because I like going to music!
Another thing we had was a substitute. Her name is Mrs. Buchanan. We have never
had her before but she is really nice. I would like her again. We had the whole
day with her because Ms. Wasney had something of some such. I don’t think she has ever been in
our school so we were her first class here at BHS. I hope she comes backJ.
On
Tuesday we had gym. It was outside. Just like every other day we had gym it was
outside. I don’t like when it is outside
because it only means one thing…. FLAG FOOTBALL!!! I hate it! Why can’t they just do it with the
people that signed up to go to the tournament!!! We have to stop playing like
every 5 seconds because someone has a FUMBLE with the ball! And then and then
everyone is arguing over how many turns they have left and who is quarterback
and all that silliness. If you are like me flag football is NOT recommended for
you. Another thing we had was French. We did stuff about our family again. We
did a thing about how big are family is. Mine is medium. Angela`s is small. Medium
is 4-6 people and small is 2-3. Large is 7 and over. I forget the words for
them in French though. I have 4 people in my family counting me. J J J J!
On Thursday we had a writing job. We had to write down 5 thing of what we are thankful for. The things I wrote down was my life, a home, a family, being able to go to school and food and water. The food and water was together. Then we traced and painted a leaf and then on Monday we are going to write on the leaf the things we are thankful for! I can’t wait to see what mine looks like when it is finished! Another thing we had was library. I just take a random book from the shelf and take it home. I don’t usually read it unless it is the best book in the world like `Wonder`. I have that book at home so I just read that instead of reading my library book. I want to take out a MYRCA Book out but I need to come in the morning to get one. Why can’t I just get one at library?!! It is not the end of the world! And it was free to take out no one wanted it. Oh well.
On Friday we are typing our T.W.A.S in the computer lab. Same as last week I am typing this for you. I have 710 I mean 713 I mean…… oh well. So whatever I am typing right now you are going to read. It is kinda weird. Well I have to get on to my next thing. J. Another thing we will do is have gym. Ha ha ha I am a mind reader. I mean I can read the future. We will also have social studies and umm, oh ya we will also have French! Ha I can tell the future.

SPIN Club launches "Socktober"!
Today, we had our 3rd SPIN Club meeting of the year for interested Grade 5 students. I have been so pleased with the interest from the students in Room 31!
We introduced the campaign "Socktober" which was created by Kid President. We watched a video (which you can watch below) and talked about the needs in our own community and province, and the world. As a club, we decided to launch this initiative in our school! We will be collecting NEW socks throughout the month of October and donating them to families in need. Thanks for your support! :)

Cloud in a Jar Experiment!
Yesterday, we made a cloud with a jar, pie plate, ice cubes and hairspray. It was really cool. It was really foggy in the jar. It looked like a cloud when it came out. It looked like one of the foggy clouds. First we put hot water in the glass jar then we put the pie plate with ice cubes on top of the jar. then we lifted the pie plate up then we put hairspray in the jar to make the foggy cloud. The hairspray was acting like cloud condensation. To make a cloud, you need warm, moist air, cooling, and cloud condensation (like dust, smoke or air pollution.

Fantastic Fall Friday TWAS
This week, school was
faster than Usian Bolt!
Monday was picture day,
but first let my take a selfie….. I didn’t smile for one of the pose cause it
looked way better, anyway know matter how bright that flash was I’m 75% sure
that my socks were brighter! We also had flag football in gym and it was
awesome! I’m thinking that I want to play it more.
Tuesday we had Mrs.
Grywinski all day. We did number of the day and Ms. Wasney kind of picked an
easy one. And when we were reading to self I was read world records 2015! I was
on the soccer page and guess how was in it. (Drum roll please) NEYMAR!!!!!!!
What was he in there for you ask? First person to score a hat trick in UCL and
some other Brazilian tournament!
Thursday was
fun, we had gym again, and we did flag football (surprise Surprise) and it was
awesome! In science Ms. Wasney showed us how to make a cloud, what she did is
she got some hot water, very hot water in a glass an put a plate of ice over it
and put some hairspray in the water and when Ms. Wasney lifted the pie plate of ice off the jar, a cloud came out! It was cool!
