Last week of 2018!

It was a very busy week for us in Room 31 . . . especially with the Holiday Spirit Week! We created beautiful abstract cards for our families, made some snowman mugs that were "snow" cute, and finished off the week with a carol sing-a-long assembly that also included saying goodbye to Mr. Altomare. Thank you to all the parents for providing treats for our party this afternoon!

Hope you have a wonderful winter break and Merry Christmas!

See you on January 7th!

Making our mark on Week 2

We've had a fun week in Room 31. On Monday, Damien's dog: Tim Bit stopped by for our first furry friend visit of the year! We have learned so much about one another during our Summer Sharing! We have also worked in groups for a pipe-cleaner challenge as well as to brainstorm attributes we want to develop this year, started a math job, began BHS Reads, had our first library class, and held a class meeting for the first time.

Today, we celebrated "International Dot Day" (which is actually tomorrow) by reading Peter Reynolds' book "The Dot", doing a challenging math job, and even sneaking in an art job modelled after the work of Roy Liechtenstein.

The weather cooperated this morning for our first fire drill of the year. Patrols had 2 sessions of training this week and will be starting next week! It's nice to see some Room 31 students take on leadership jobs in our school!

Looking forward to meeting you at the Open House BBQ on Tuesday, September 18 from 5 to 6:30. Don't worry if you haven't pre-ordered food, you will still be able to buy during the BBQ!

Last week of 2017!

Wow! We've had a whirlwind of a week! Our Christmas Concert was last night, so that meant we had some practices through the week. We did Secret Santa - which was so fun, created cards for our families, and painted wood ornaments. Thank you to all the families for coming out to watch the concert. We had quite a few Room 31 students acting in the play and they did FANTASTIC! Today, we wore festive pjs and chilled out with a photobooth and a movie. Thanks to families for sending in delicious treats!

Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and I'm looking forward to hearing all about your adventures! See you on January 8th!

Here are some pics from the week courtesy of our class Instagram account . . .

A Cinnamony Week!

We've been super busy this week! The stage was delivered on Tuesday and we have already had a few practices in the gym! And with the gym being used, phys ed classes are outside. Today, the students got to ski! We did a cute craft with our Kindergarten book buddies. Every child is creating a snowman tea light holder/candy dish. They turned out adorable, and all have different personalities! We also drew names for Secret Santa that starts on Monday!

Mrs. Tresoor and I have also been working with SPIN Club members before and after school to make tree ornaments to sell at the Christmas concerts next week. Room 31 smells delicious!  :)

It was also an emotional week, as a funeral was held for Mr. Hargreaves, who passed away last week. He was the head custodian of BHS for over 20 years. I already miss our chats and being teased by him. Did you know one year a student dressed up as him for Halloween?! He was a fixture at BHS and will be missed. Do you remember when he had to kiss a GOAT?!

Enjoy the pictures . . . they are from our Instagram account!

What a week!

We've had a fantastic 4-day week at school! We were busy preparing our portfolios for student-led conferences. On Tuesday, we recognized "Giving Tuesday", and wrote notes to classmates to brighten up their day. Yesterday was definitely a highlight of our year . . . we went to see Wonder! This was the best field trip ever! When we returned, students completed reflections and we had a great discussion about the similarities and differences between the novel and the movie. It was my third time seeing it . . . and my third time crying during it! Hahaha!

Thank you for coming out Thursday night and Friday morning to celebrate the first term of Grade 5 with your child. I'm a firm believer of: "the kid you are now, is the adult you will become". It was really great to share in our successes!

Have a great weekend!

Goodbye September!

How is it the end of September already?!

This week, we had our picture day on Monday. If you need/want, the retakes will take place in November. We did lots of math and science this week.

We learned about the different types of clouds and the sky was changing every few minutes. It was the perfect day for observations! We also did a writing job for Thanksgiving. The students listed things they are thankful for. Next, we created gorgeous leaves with oil pastel and liquid watercolour. We then shared our list on the leaves with a sharpie. Be sure to check them out on Artsonia!

We also worked in groups with the iPads for the first time this week. It was a fun way to practice place value in math!

Today, I was lucky to join Mrs. Rand and 29 BHS cross-country runners at the divisional Turkey Trot at Bird's Hill Park. It was a beautiful day!

Fun Run Friday!

We've had a great week at school . . . doing more and more work! We started our unit on weather in Science and began refreshing ourselves with place value in Math. We will be learning up to the millions for number sense. Dax also taught us how to create paper cranes on Wednesday! They turned out beautiful!

The Peacemakers started going out at recesses this week. They help solve problems with the Kindergarten to Grade 2/3 students. Each pair is outside for 30 minutes once per week.

It was a gorgeous morning for the Terry Fox Run today! So many Room 31 students volunteered to be a "run buddy" with students in Kindergarten and Grade 1! Thanks for your kindness and leadership. And 3 of our classmates were so determined to do 13 laps around the entire playground that they ran right through recess!

Thank you to families for coming out on Wednesday to our Open House BBQ. It was great to meet you. As well, I was able to visit with some former students!

Just a reminder that Monday is Picture Day! Be sure to bring your SMILE!!!! :)
