TWAS

On Monday we had music Monday in the gym. We were on a live webcast watching kids all over Canada singing and dancing. Chris Hadfield sang the Music Monday song. Is called ISS it stands for the international space station. It’s not an awesome song but it’s okay. We also got to do MATH I was so excited. We were working on division. We started it last week but it least we got to do more on it.  We also worked on our expert project in the computer lab. I am studying dance.

On Tuesday we had math in math we worked on some more division. We use division in our everyday lives it pretty cool. We also had gym. I forgot what we did but I think we worked with basketballs. We also had choir. In choir we sang a song called “colors of the wind”. It is from the movie Pocahontas. We also had our science quiz I was the first to finish and I was very confident with my answers. We also had French we worked on practicing our script for our presentation.

On Wednesday I was sick and didn’t go to school.

On Thursday we did poetry. It was called a list poem. A list poem is like a grocery list. It pretty cool and we use it like every day. We had French too. Madison and I got to do our French. Ms.Daraska said we did really good. I am so happy. We also had gym and library. In gym we played a fun basketball game and in library well I got to sit on a beanbag!

On Friday we did our roof top photo. We were out there for quite a bit. We are also doing our TWAS. We will have music. In math I am guessing we will work on division. We will have book buddies my book buddies name is Rylan. He is really nice. We might also have health. Yay!!

Patrol of the Month: April

Congratulations to Jayden for being recognized as one of the Patrols of the Month for the month of April. It's awesome to see so many Room 31 students taking on leadership roles at BHS!

Talented kids in Room 31!

We have an amazing group of students in Room 31! Not only do they work hard at school, they are dedicated outside of school too! There are several students that are involved in sports, dance, and music activities. Today, Jacqueline shared a special recognition with us . . . .

In December I had a scholarship competition against my orchestra. My orchestra goes up from grade 3 to grade 10 I won the scholarship competition. I was against lots of people from my orchestra. There are three orchestras my orchestra is the junior orchestra and I play the violin. In April I had a concert at the Centennial Concert Hall, but before the concert there was an awards ceremony. I got my money there and I was supposed to get a plaque but yesterday I got it instead. It was so exciting! Today I showed the class my plaque!

Instagram Challenge

We have been really consistent with students each having a day to post on our Instagram account. Something that is starting up for May is called eduphotaday, which was introduced to classrooms last year. You can learn more about it by clicking HERE. The idea is that classrooms participate in a challenge to post a picture for the word/theme of the day. Last year, we used the photos from other classrooms as inspiration for writing.

Today, students in Room 31 had the opportunity to sign up for a word/theme that they'd like to showcase on our class Instagram account.

There is also an Instagram challenge based on Math. We decided that we will participate whenever we are inspired by a word/theme.

TWAS

On Monday we had some Expert project presentations Cole and Hailey B shared theirs. Cole studied the Asian giant hornet and Hailey B studied awesome pugs. It was fun looking at them they were really good. Then we had Bus evacuation it was a practice we went into the bus and the driver told us what to do if we get into an emergency. After she was done talking we jumped out the back of the bus two bus patrols were helping us jump out. We also had spring pictures taken. Then, we did step 1 of an art job.

On Tuesday we had Gym in Gym we played keep away with the basketball and we also played ship to shore. Ship to shore is a game were the Gym teacher calls stuff like hit the deck and you have to do it with a basketball. Then we had Read to self. I finished my book called Brian’s Winter. It was really good and it was about survival. He crashed in a plane and has to survive in the Canadian wilderness.

On Wednesday we had Gym. In gym we played basketball we practiced our shots and dribble it was really fun. After we were done that we played a mini game we were not allowed press it was really fun. Then we had Library in library I got a book called Hatchet it is the book before Brian’s Winter and I didn’t know there was one before so I’m going to read that one now.

On Thursday we had a handball tournament we went to Bernie Wolfe School. They had a huge gym it was 3 times the size as ours or bigger it was huge they also have a pool its awesome. The handball tournament was awesome we were going to get 9 games but it took too long so we only got 5 games, that sucked! Then we had book buddies. My buddy was not here for half of the time so I went with Gavin and his buddy. When my buddy came back, he was being disrespectful to me and Gavin so he got in trouble again but it was time to go by then.

On Friday we will have Gym hopefully we play dodge ball. We will also have Robert Andrews people visit our school and we will have French and new attendance.

TWAS in pictures!

Whew! Even though this was a 4-day week, it sure was a busy one! We didn't do a formal TWAS this week, so I will briefly share what we were up to! All of the square photos are from our class instagram account. Follow us at: @mswasneysclass!

Monday was a very eventful day! We had our very first Expert Project presentation. Madison used the online flyer creator, "Smore" to present her research about Nailpolish. I think more students are eager to present now! Near the end of the day, we had a fire drill for over an hour!

Tuesday was filled with wrapping up the European Explorer project presentations, Choir practices, and an Earth Day activity.

Wednesday was the BIG day . . . Happy 100th Anniversary to Bird's Hill School! It was a lovely turnout of former and current staff, students, and families. The gym was packed during a formal program, where the girls and boys choir and the Grade 6 classes performed their music festival pieces. We were also treated to snacks, a Children's concert, and had a blast in a photobooth (provided by my sister)! Hopefully you had a chance to purchase a button or postcard to commemorate the event!

This morning, we had a fantastic time at the WSO's "Raiders of the Lost Art" program. It was extra special because several Bird's Hill students (including 5 from Room 31) were on stage performing some drama pieces that went along with the music! I thought Brayden, Gavin, Haley, Hannah, and Madison all did a wonderful job! They looked so professional up on stage!

Finally, throw in Mad Science, Art Club, Basketball & Handball practices and . . . .that was our week!

S.P.I.N. Club News

Today, we had 95 staff and students participate in the We are Silent campaign. Students in Grades 4, 5, and 6 had the opportunity to purchase a tag to wear for the day to show that they were going silent for children around the world. It was awesome that we had quite a few students in Room 31 give this a try!

Also, I had some great helpers sorting, counting, and rolling coins that were donated through the We Create Change campaign. We are so excited that BHS collected $506.94! That is FANTASTIC! This will be going towards building a school in Nicaragua. It's so cool seeing kids helping kids! Way to go! Thanks for your support!

Ms. Wasney  :)

TWAS

On Monday we wrote our BHS 100th anniversary memory sheet and mine is my favourite thing from BHS is going to Wheelies with the patrols and my 2nd is I liked going on field trips every year and those are my memories. We had music. In music we did papers - boring papers about WSO and the Raiders of the Lost Art. Some kids presented their European Explorer projects in Social Studies.

On Tuesday we did math. In math we did a math paper that was blue and it was 3 digit by 2 digit multiplication and it was hard. We had book buddies. For book buddies we read to our book buddies in 5W’s classroom and it’s my classroom and that’s it for Tuesday.

On Wednesday the patrols went to Wheelies. On the trip to wheelies everybody was talking on the bus and I was sitting next to Ms. Wasney and we were talking. When we got there we went inside the building and roller skated it was fun and I bought a drink for about 1.99 and it was Dr. Pepper it was YUMMY!!! And I got an Aero chocolate bar too and it was yummy too and that’s it for Wednesday.

On Thursday we are going to have choir. We are going to have HOT LUNCH YUMMMMY and we are going to have science. And that’s it.
