SPIN Club update!

The SPIN Club was excited to run “Socktober” once again! Bird’s Hill School donated 236 pairs of socks for families in need! The socks were dropped off at Mosaic Newcomer Resource Network earlier in November.

We also participated in the “We Scare Hunger” campaign during the last two weeks of October with “WE Schools”. Winnipeg Harvest picked up over 270 non-perishable food items!

Thanks for supporting these campaigns!

Be sure to look for the SPIN Club’s table in the front foyer during the Christmas concerts! We will be continuing our tradition of selling handmade items to raise money to build a school in Nicaragua.

A Spooky Week!

It was such a fun week! I LOVE Halloween so much! We had some awesome costumes in Room 31 and lots of yummy treats for our party on Tuesday. We've been working on science design, paper blogs, and did some peace writing that will be used for an upcoming art job.

Here is Jordan's TWAS:

On Monday we had gym and we played a Halloween game and it was spooky frost it was fun but I got hurt. And we had music and we played a song for MS waseny and she liked it a lot.

On Tuesday we had book buddies with MS Henry’s class and my buddy’s name is Autumn and I am with Maxx too so Autumn has 2 big buddies. We had a Halloween party in class it was so much fun me and Emma and faith were seating together at the party.

On Wednesday we got new name tags and they are moustaches it is awesome I like it. We had new attendance we have to draw a moustache on an emoji that has are name under it is so cool.   

On Thursday we got to see MS Dodd’s and her baby Emerson she is so cute and she is 3 months old it was amazing. We did peace writing and it was for art it was easy to do and we had to draw a picture.

On Friday we did BHS reads it was good I am reading a Geronimo stilton book it is a nice book to read. We had library and I took out a magazine it is cool it is stuff to do in summer.

Happy Halloween!

It was a SPOOKTACULAR day at BHS! Thanks to so many families for making it out to the parade this afternoon! The gym was packed! We had so much fun! Thanks for all the delicious treats and snacks for our party!

A snowy TWAS!

We've had an exciting week! First WE Day, first snowfall, final day of the Dog House Canteen, AND a haunted house in the gym!

Here is Cayden's TWAS:

On Magnificent Monday we had weekend wind-up it is like when it is your turn you share about your weekend if you want too. You can also pass. My favorite part of my weekend was when we went amazing corn and went into the haunted forest. It was so much fun:]. Also on Mon we had little buddy’s every time my little buddy gets more used to me. He is AWESOME!

On Terrific Tuesday we had paper blog introduction. We made blogs but on paper. I called mine deke snipe celli blog. If you can’t tell it’s based on hockey. We also made a French booklet that has questions in French and you answer it by drawing it or writing it.

On WE DAY Wednesday I went to we day it was AMAZING!!!!! I heard so many inspiring speeches it was great. I really liked when Sara Wells talked about believing in yourself no matter what. It was GREAT!!!!!!!!!!! When we got back we did a reflection about we day that refreshed my memory a lot about it. Once spin club got back in class we did Halloween glyphs I really enjoyed it. Mine turned out pretty good.

On snow day Thursday at recess there was snow finally I was so happy I really missed the snow. It was amazing at lunch recess I played soccer. Everyone was slipping and sliding it was so much fun. Also on Thursday at lunch we watched polar bear live video. It was in Churchill. It was so cool. We also saw tundra buggies it was amazing. 

On Freaky Friday I will go help in the haunted house gym class. I am SUPER EXCITED!!!!!! We also did TWAS I am SUPER EXCITED TO FINISH!! I am pretty happy with what I wrote. It is almost my record thank you so much for reading!

Snowy weather inspires Polar Bear cam!

Well, the snow arrived! Not sure if it will stick around or not, but it inspired me to share the link that shows a live feed of polar bears up in Churchill. This time last year, I actually went up there with my sister to celebrate my birthday! It was an amazing experience!

SPIN Club goes to WE Day!

Attending WE Day is definitely one of my favourite teaching days of the school year! Today, Mrs. Tresoor and I took 16 Grade 5 SPIN Club members to Bell MTS Place to join 16 000 change-makers from Manitoba. The day is always an inspiring one and the purpose of attending WE Day is to get us pumped for a year of social justice. Tickets are NOT bought. They are earned. So, a shout-out goes to students from last year! Once again, we had great seats . . . especially since we are the youngest students to go! Hope you enjoy the video!

Another Short Week!

Sports Day for United Way!

Here is Faith's TWAS . . .

This week at school was a short week once again! On Monday it was sports day for spirit week!! I wore a Canada jersey signed by the Canada Team! We had BHS reads. I am starting to read The Witches. It is an awesome book! I read it already and I loved it! It is about real witches . . .  not fairy tale witches You will have to read the book if you dare . . . .

Vision Testing on Tuesday!

On Tuesday I wasn't there for the morning because me and Jordan helped little kids do their vision and hearing testing. We were called the runners. What we had to do was get the kids and bring some of them to hearing and some of them to vision. When they were done we had to bring them to the other one and then we would take them back to class. It was fun! We also had PJ Day! I wore some comfortable PJs and I almost fell asleep in class!!!

Spooktacular Art on Thursday

On Wednesday we had Word Work Wednesday. It's where there words scrambled up and we had to make world from only those letters. We also had wacky hair day. I put my hair in two cupcakes but they both tell out from the wind. We also had extra recess because we filled up part of our R Chart so we went out early.

Art Reflection on Thursday

On Thursday we are going to have a class meeting. I don't know what we are sharing yet but I hope it is something fun! We also did TWAS. You are reading it right now.

On Friday we get the day off !!!! I am going to my Grandma's for a sleepover with my cousin and my sister!! It's going to be a BLAST! (Because we are going to stay up to 11:30 DON'T TELL MY MOM!!!!)

A Thankful TWAS

Flag Football Tournament

We've had another busy week in Room 31! It was really nice to hear about what everyone did for Thanksgiving this past weekend. On Mondays, we always do "weekend wind-up"; which is a great way to get to know one another. But this week, we shared on Tuesday! We learned about the water cycle in science, and did a really neat flip chart for practicing place value in math. We also started our weekly routine of "word work Wednesday". We definitely have a determined group of kids in here! Yesterday, 36 Grade 4s and 5s went to the RETSD flag football tournament. It was a fun day!

Finishing up an art job on Monday

Monday. Monday was magnificent because I had a friend come over and we went in my house and played We Ski and I made him an account for We Ski It was Amazing.

Tuesday. Tuesday was awesome because we had our Last and Final Flag Football Practice it was really fun. We did weekend windup and I shared about getting a new book it’s about hockey it’s really cool.

Word Work Wednesday

Wednesday. Wednesday was amazing because we worked on comments on our blog and when I was done I played Prodigy Math Game it was marvelous. We also did Word Work Wednesday it’s about making words and the nine letter word was community I didn’t get that many words but I still had fun.

Writing Prompt on Thursday

Thursday. Thursday I barely had school because I went on … flag football tournament we had really fun. One of my teammates caught the ball that I threw it was really awful but he still caught it I was Shocked Very Shocked.

Friday. Friday we had book buddies and I read Pong Ping Pig to my little buddy it was amazing.

Place Value flip chart

Hello October!

For a 4-day week with the students, we sure packed in lots of stuff! We have been continuing our work with place value in Math and weather in Science. We made a cloud in a jar this week. Lots of "whoas"! Hahahaha! We met with our book buddies for the first time. We are lucky because we are with BOTH kindergarten classes! We also started an art job with fall trees. We couldn't help but get inspired on a quick walk today in the beautiful weather!

Here is Emily's TWAS:

On Monday we had no school, so I went shopping and I got a $100 gift card to K. P. Mall for my birthday 2 weeks ago, and I haven't spent it yet, so I went there and I also got a $20 gift card to Claire's, and another one to H&M for $25. So I went to Claire's and got a purse and it is so cute. And I also got a few t-shirts and some pairs of paints and it was really FUN!

On Tuesday we got a new attendance and it is really fun once I got the hang of it, so we all had our name on a leaf and the leaves were on a tree and we had to tap the leaf with our name on it and it will fall down. And then it will record if you're here or not. 

On Wednesday we had Book Buddies with the kindergartens. And my new book buddy's name is Logan and he is so sweet but I can tell that he was a little nervous but he kind of warmed up to me and then I read him a book and it was really FUN!

On Thursday we switched spots. The week before we voted on the seating plan that we wanted and I sit beside Cameron and I like the seating plan. It is really COOL!

Today we will be doing art but I don't know what it is but I know that it will be FUN!
