Father's Day Art

Last Tuesday we worked with Mrs. Kulyk for our Father’s Day art. I made a speed boat for my dad. It looks really cool! Other people did not listen to the instructions at all. No matter what I did, I did not have anything hanging off the speed boat. It looked really good. We made it all out of clay. It was very easy and hard at the same time. The art teacher, Mrs. Savinkoff at Robert Andrews is firing the clay art work for us.

This week at school, we made our silhouette cards for our Father’s Day project. The first step was to paint your card with water colour paint. You could paint it warm colours or cool colours. I chose warm colours. The next step was to let it dry for a day. Then you did a rough sketch of your silhouette. Your silhouette is something that you do with your Dad. Next you took a sharpie and did your silhouette. You also had to colour your silhouette with the sharpie. Then you chose you back round of your card. I chose red because it’s my dad’s favourite colour. Next step was to take a piece of white paper and write your poem or memory inside. First write it with pencil. Then you went over it in sharpie. The last step was to glue down the white paper.

Patrol of the Month

Congratulations to Hailey for being recognized as one of the Patrols of the Month for May. It's so nice to see Room 31 students volunteering their time in various ways around the school!

Last week on Thursday I got Patrol of the Month with another patrol on my bus because we had our vests on for almost the whole school year. I picked the patrols in a draw and we picked 6 names and some of them were from, 5T, Ms. Dyck’s class, and also from the other Gr. 6 classroom.

TWAS in pictures!

This week, TWAS will be shared in pictures from our Instagram account!

We've had a busy week . . . funky new attendance and name tags for June, clay art with Mrs. Kulyk on Tuesday, a field trip to the Science Gallery on Wednesday, 2 fire drills and book buddies on Thursday, and a new Instagram challenge! Oh, we also worked on poetry, division, science, and even some social studies! Ha!

Mrs. Tresoor and I created an Instagram challenge: #goodbyebirdshillschool. The idea is that each student in Grade 5 has the opportunity to take a picture and write a caption for something that they will miss now that they are leaving BHS. Our class accounts are private, and we like to challenge the students by coming up with unique photos . . . we don't take pictures of faces! I think this will be a fun way to end the year . . . full of memories!

Science Gallery Field Trip

Yesterday we went on a field trip to the science gallery. It was really cool and Mrs. Tresoor’s class came with us. They got to sit at the back of the bus first wha ,wha ,wha. But it still was awesome we got to have the free time first. They had to do the demo. It was awesome we got to do anything we wanted to like going into the matrix and run into a bunch of mirrors. and we also got to build our own little car to race against other people. And that’s not it! there was also a thing that created a small tornado and there was also a pulley chairs to try. But after a bunch of fooling around, we had to do the demo which wasn’t that bad really. a guy made a rocket ship out of rocket fuel and a pop bottle. And also blew up a bunch of small gas canisters which had gas in them. Then we left but that time we got to sit at the back of the bus. yay.

3D Art

We did a cool 3D art that looks like an optical illusion.  It was easy and all the final artwork pieces look beautiful. We all worked so hard. These are the steps:

1.      Get a piece of plain white computer paper and draw eight lines in different directions so that you have ten spaces
2.      Draw happy faces in the spaces but skip every second space and draw at least four lines in each space
3.      Colour in the happy face spaces from the bottom to the top but skip every second space
4.      Then draw sad faces in all the empty spaces and at least have four lines in each space.
5.      Pick another colour and do the same with the sad faces like you did with the happy faces (remember to skip a space every time)
6.      Trace all your lines with sharpie to get it the full optical illusion.
7.      Then with the same colours but in a pencil crayon shade in the sides lightly.

And there you have your optical illusion!!
