Manitoba Falcon Cam

Since 2006, a pair of Peregrine Falcons have laid eggs on the roof of the Radisson Hotel in Winnipeg. If you click HERE you can watch videos of the nest live! Maybe if we're lucky, we'll see a hatching!

We were all SO excited to see the 4 eggs today and see the falcon parents take turns caring for them!

Today I presented my expert project on “Tigers”. I did a PowerPoint and PowerPoint’s can’t go on the blog so I’m typing this up so you learn about them.
1. Tigers have the brightest eyes of all the animals in the world.
2. There are 5 species of tigers which are Sumatran, Siberian, Bengal, and I can’t remember the others.
3. Snow tigers live in rainforests
4. If you breed a tiger with a lion you get a hybrid called a liger or a tigon.
5. There are 7 cubs in a litter. The average is 2 or 3.

TWAS

This week at school we did some sheets of division word problems.
Nathan and Zach presented their expert projects Nathan did deer and Zach did Barack Obama. Lindsay and Kyla are doing their projects this afternoon.
On Monday we had Music Monday. For Music Monday we had an assembly we saw a video of Chris Hadfield live in space singing… somebody singing.
Today we had indoor recess because it was raining boo! At indoor recess I just got to school at lunch. When I came I just sat down played with some clay.
On Monday we had a substitute named Mrs. Whitney. She is a really good friend to Ms.Wasney and her sister Leah.
In science we are starting to learn about the human body. For the human body we are learning about the systems in a human body.
For Mother’s Day we made a Mother’s Day Gazette that’s where you write something nice and why she won the best mother’s day award. Then you write some did you know facts about your mom. And the final step you get a picture of you and you mom. My picture was of me and my brother Liam and my mom at Bird’s Hill Park.
For instagram challenge we are doing activities and writing about what today’s theme picture was. I made a poem on lost and found and hockey and other bunch of sports. My favourite word was polka dots.
In gym we are learning about badminton. For badminton we have to hit the birdie against the wall really hard. And we have to learn about controlling the birdie. In skipping rope routine we have to start with a starting pose then we skip then we do two action then we do an end pose.
In music we’re doing a pop song called I’ve got a Feeling. The band who wrote the song is the Black Eyed Peas.

Grade 5s receive Bird's Hill Bulldogs Bracelets!

We got bracelets for no blue slips for the month of April. The bracelets are given out if your class has no problems on the playground like no pushing, punching, kicking or slapping. So that’s why we got them because we had no blue slips. That means we have been following expectations outside. The last time the grade 5s had no incidents was in October! We got yogurt tubes that time. We are so happy because that is a long time from October to April. If we don’t get any blue slips for the month of May we will get popsicles.
So wish us good luck.J

TWAS

This week at school we started to do a photo challenge on Instagram. It’s called #eduphotoadaymay. On Wednesday we started to do the challenge. Brooklyn did the first day that was “us”. Then the next day Nick M. did “music”, and then today Nicholas is going to do “outside our window”. We have to take a picture of what the word is of the day on the iPad. I’m doing “upside down”.
Here is the iPad and Ipevo showing our
Instagram homepage.
In math we are doing long division. We started to do 1 digit by 3 digits. It’s a bit confusing, but then it’s easy. We had to mark our page with a marker. The green dot meant you understand it, the yellow dot meant you get it most of the time, and the red dot meant you need help. This week, Nicholas and Ryan S presented their expert projects.
There was a guest that came to our classroom on Wednesday. She came to tell us how to write a hero letter. Her name was Ms. Augusta. She was writing to her son Daniel that was fighting cancer. A hero writing is you write a letter to someone that you think is a hero to you. I’m writing to my cousin, Desi.
In French we are presenting our booklets to the class. We are also learning about foods. Mostly Breakfast. In gym we are learning how to play basketball. Today is Ms. Allen’s last day today. We made her a tagxedo for her. It’s shaped like a music note with all our names in it. Then Ms.Knoll is giving to her. We also had choir and library.
Grrrrreat GEARS!
In science we had our last simple machines lesson. We learned about gears. We also had new spots. I’m sitting with Kyla, Brooklyn and Maddy. I like my new spot! Kyla and I just had to switch spots, not a far move.
Here is the new attendance for May!
In Heath we learned about Internet Safety and Common Lures. We also have a new attendance. It is flip flops. The weather isn’t perfect but it’s a fun attendance! Yesterday we had Book Buddies!

Expert Projects: Cheetahs AND Basketball

On Wednesday I presented my 2nd Expert Project and it was about cheetahs. Here are some interesting facts: Did you know the scientific name for cheetah is Acinonyx Jubatus?  Did you also know the Swahili name is Duma for a cheetah?  A female cheetah usually has 2 to 4 cubs. Some of the stuff they eat are Thomson gazelles, warthogs, and antelopes.
